A new opportunity is available for aspiring entrepreneurs in Carter County, offering hands-on training and the chance to compete for startup funding.
The ECDI Women’s Business Centers of Central Appalachia is hosting “Ignite Appalachia,” a free six-week entrepreneurship bootcamp and pitch competition running from April 23rd through May 28th.
Organizers say the program is designed for anyone with a business idea, as well as current small business owners looking to grow. Participants will receive guidance on building a business plan, connect with experienced mentors, and take part in weekly in-person sessions held in both Grayson and Olive Hill.
Sessions will include meetings at Commercial Bank of Grayson, along with other locations throughout the county as the program rotates between communities.
At the end of the six-week program, participants will have the opportunity to pitch their business ideas for a chance to receive five thousand dollars in seed funding to help launch or expand their venture.
Organizers say the goal is to support local entrepreneurship while strengthening the small business community across Eastern Kentucky through partnerships with regional organizations.
Those interested in applying should note that the deadline is Monday, April 20th, and space in the program is limited. Applications can be completed online at LetsRepower.org or by scanning the QR code on the official event flyer.
Again, Ignite Appalachia will run from April 23rd through May 28th in Carter County, with applications due by April 20th.

Residents in Carter County will have a chance to safely dispose of sensitive documents this weekend during a community shred event in Grayson.
Commercial Bank of Grayson will host its annual Community Shred Day on Saturday, April 18th, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at its main office in Grayson.
Organizers say the event gives both individuals and businesses an opportunity to securely destroy old paperwork, including financial records and personal documents. On-site hard drive destruction will also be available for those needing to dispose of electronic storage devices.
With the tax filing deadline approaching, bank officials say it’s a good time for people to review what records they need to keep and what can be safely discarded, helping reduce clutter while also protecting against identity theft.
The event is part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to support the community by providing convenient and secure services for handling sensitive information.
Again, Community Shred Day will take place Saturday, April 18th, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Commercial Bank of Grayson’s main office.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Eastern Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage in Grayson until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage on US 60 from April 15th through the 27th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful. Let’s all do our part to keep Carter County looking its best.
