With the Easter holiday heading our way this weekend it won’t be long before Carter County is filled with fun celebrations for the special day. To start off our newscast for the day we’ll go over several of the events that are planned throughout the county starting off with a Bunny Hop collaboration from the businesses inside Camp Landing. All the fun can be enjoyed on Friday, April 18th from 6 until 8pm where there will be free professional photos with the Easter Bunny, great door prizes, and of course gathering candy from all of the local businesses located throughout Camp Landing Entertainment District. Door prize winners will be drawn at approximately 8 o’clock.
Several churches are activities planned for the Saturday of Easter weekend as well like an egg hunt and family fun day sponsored by the First Christian Church of Olive Hill at 110 Caleb Powers Lane from 2 to 4pm, another community egg hunt starts at 2pm at the Straight Creek Independent Free Will Baptist Church, and the annual Easter dinner complete with yet another egg hunt at the Grahn Hill Freewill Baptist Church from 3 until 5pm. The dinner and festivities are open to the public. Finally, the Oak Grove Church of Christ is hosting their own Easter party from 12 noon until 2pm for all children through 5th grade.
Moving past Saturday and onto Easter Day itself: a Celebration in the form of a traditional egg hunt taking place at Carter Caves State Resort Park is planned. On Sunday, April 20th the Friends of Carter Caves will be offering free entry for all, with children participating by age groups and starting at the Welcome Center at 2pm.
Your friends from the Carter County Public Library are all set to celebrate the upcoming Easter holiday with not one but two special events – with one outing planned for the West and East end branches. Both events will be held on Saturday, April 19th – and on that day at the 116 West Main Street Grayson Branch the community can find a fun and interactive egg hunt beginning at 11am. Meanwhile, at the Olive Hill branch located at 110 Comet Drive a combined Easter party and egg hunt will be held. Those who attend will be treated to a special story and activity, along with plenty of games, snacks, and goodie bags. All of the fun at the West end branch begins at 1pm.

Also, don’t forget that Carter Caves State Resort Park is still accepting reservations for their annual and delicious Easter feast which is planned for Sunday, April 20th. This buffet course will be offered between 12 noon and 6pm, and offers a menu of entrees including roast lamb, their famous fried catfish with hushpuppies, inside round of beef, or ham. All the sides you could want like mashed potatoes, green beans, honey glazed carrots, broccoli casserole, and even more. Also as part of the offer will be the salad bar, pinto beans, and chicken noodle soup. Finally after all that, if you still have room for it, dessert for the meal will be banana pudding, assorted cobbler, and cake.

Team Kentucky is getting ready to present a special Superheroes for Kids camp in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month in April. The northeastern service region will hold the event on the date of Friday, April 18th from 4:30 until 7pm at the Grayson Sports Park located at 596 Robert & Mary Street – the event will see free food, prizes and toys, plenty of games, an egg hunt, and even community partners all set up for everyone to enjoy.
Admission to the event will be free and everyone is welcome to come out and participate in this special Superheroes for Kids camp in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month.

District Nine of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will begin a paving project today on KY 1 in Greenup County. The paving will take place throughout the week along 7 miles of KY 1. Set to begin today and continue throughout the next 2 weeks, motorists should expect one-lane flagged traffic on KY 1 between the Greenup/Carter County line (mile point 0) and Addie Road (mile point 5.34).
Road work schedules may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling
The work is being done by Mountain Enterprises, Inc., under a $837 thousand Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract.
