If you’ve been waiting all week for the biggest dose of horsepower, noise and excitement, today is the night at the Carter County Fair.
It’s Demo Derby Night, and the fairgrounds are packed with entertainment from the moment the gates open until the engines fire up for one of the most anticipated events of the week.
Admission is 15 dollars, and that includes your carnival rides. The Great American Carnival opens at 6 p.m., giving families plenty of time to enjoy the midway before the evening’s big attractions get underway.
The Petting Zoo will be open from 5:30 until 9 p.m., while the Exhibit Hall will be open from 6 until 8 p.m. And, of course, Chase’s Racing Pigs will be back with three shows throughout the evening.
At 7 p.m., FTC Pro Wrestling returns to the fairgrounds, giving fans another opportunity to see live wrestling action. Also at 7, local artist Haley Bays will be conducting live painting demonstrations, offering fairgoers a chance to watch artwork come together right before their eyes.
But the main event of the evening arrives at 8 p.m., when the Top Dog Demolition Derby takes over the Motor Arena.
Expect roaring engines, crunching metal and plenty of excitement as drivers put their vehicles to the ultimate test in one of the Carter County Fair’s signature events.

A new local effort is working to bring awareness, support, and resources to those facing mental health challenges in our community.
The Carter County Suicide Prevention Coalition is a team of local individuals and agencies working together to help prevent suicide and self-harm in Carter County. The coalition was formed in February of 2025, and since then, members have been focused on increasing awareness, highlighting available resources, and promoting mental health wellness and suicide prevention.
The coalition is inviting community members who are interested in learning more or getting involved in future efforts to take a brief interest survey. Your input can help the coalition better understand how local residents want to participate and support these important efforts.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Western Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage on US 60 until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage in Grayson from August 19th through the 21st.
