The East Carter Youth Service Center is inviting the community to grab their lawn chairs and blankets for a special Movie Night this Friday, August 15th, on the front lawn of East Carter Middle School in Grayson.
Festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. with a back-to-school boost—free school supplies will be available for East Carter Middle and High School students while supplies last. It’s a great opportunity for families to stock up before the first bell rings, all while enjoying a fun evening together.
Then, at 8:30 p.m., it’s showtime. Settle in under the summer sky for a screening of the beloved baseball classic “The Sandlot.” Relive the adventures of Scotty Smalls, Benny “The Jet,” and the rest of the gang as they spend one unforgettable summer on the ballfield.
Everyone is welcome to bring along a lawn chair, blanket, or even a pool float to sit on. Just find a cozy spot on the front lawn and enjoy the film with friends, family, and neighbors.
The event takes place at 1 Spirit Lane in Grayson, and promises an evening of community spirit, school pride, and good old-fashioned summer fun.

East Carter fans — don’t forget the First Down Dinner coming up this weekend on Saturday, August 16th which will take place from 6 to 8 PM at the First Baptist Church Life Center.
This special evening will honor Raider football alumni and introduce this year’s players, with Coach Garry McPeek as the special guest speaker. It’s a great night for fans, families, and the whole East Carter community to rally together before the season begins.

Also coming up this weekend is the 8th Annual Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Car Show is rolling into Olive Hill on Saturday, August 16th.
Held at 10824 West US Highway 60 in Olive Hill, the event is free to attend and promises a showcase of classic cars, custom builds, and eye-catching rides from across the region.
Registration runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with the show officially underway from 12:00 to 2:00 PM.
Hosted by Clark’s Pump-N-Shop and John W. Clark Oil Company, the event is a great way to spend a summer afternoon, whether you’re entering your vehicle or just coming to admire the chrome and craftsmanship. Once again that’s the 8th annual Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Car Show on Saturday, August 16th.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Western Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage along US 60 until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage in Grayson from August 20th through the 22nd.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
