A free educational opportunity is coming up for expectant mothers and new moms across our region.
KY-Moms M.A.T.R. and Pathways will host a free two-hour virtual workshop called “My Journey, My Health: A Prevention and Risk Reduction Educational Workshop.”
The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8th, beginning at 11:00 in the morning, and is designed for pregnant women and new mothers who have infants under one year old.
Women from Carter and surrounding counties are invited to participate, including those from Bath, Boyd, Elliott, Greenup, Lawrence, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan and Rowan Counties.
The workshop will focus on health education, prevention and ways participants can reduce potential health risks as they navigate pregnancy and early motherhood.
And there’s an added incentive for those who take part. Participants will receive a 25-dollar Walmart gift card for attending the workshop.

If you’ve been waiting for a chance to enjoy some live theater right here at home, the Olive Hill Center for Arts and Heritage is getting ready to bring plenty of laughs, music, and a little Dolly Parton magic to the stage.
The Center for Arts and Heritage will present 9 to 5: The Musical, based on the beloved hit movie and featuring a high-energy story about friendship, determination, and standing up for what’s right.
The production has faced a few challenges along the way, including bad weather earlier this year, illness, and busy schedules — but the show has persevered. As the organizers put it, you just can’t stop Dolly!
Performances are scheduled for August 27th, 28th, and 29th, with each show beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are just 12 dollars.
So gather your friends, family, or coworkers and make plans for an entertaining night of live theater while supporting the performing arts right here in our community.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Eastern Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage in Grayson until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage located along US 60 from August 26th through the 28th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful. Let’s all do our part to keep Carter County looking its best.
