The Carter County Public Library is holding a special Christmas Party this evening at their Olive Hill branch location. Beginning at 6pm you will find plenty of fun with friends, complete with snacks, music, games, and of course a present during this season of giving.

Another scam is circulating in our area, and although it hasn’t been reported in Carter County yet it has hit neighboring Rowan County. The City of Morehead have confirmed that they received several calls from individuals that someone is making the rounds with fraudulent calls on behalf of the Morehead Police Department and warning residents that there is a warrant out for their arrest.
This warning usually comes with an attempt to gain personal information from the resident, and it’s now being recommended that if you receive any type of similar call to refuse to provide any personal information about yourself. If you do get such a call and are curious about its legitimacy then you should hang up and call your local police department.
Greenbo Lake State Resort Park’s Lodge is set to close at 4pm this afternoon for the Christmas holiday season. This closure will remain in effect through next Thursday, December 26th. The current plan is for Greenbo to reopen on December 27th for their regular business.
Today is the deadline to register for the Carter County Extension Office’s partnership class with Liz’s Barn Quilts to offer an exciting and unique experience that they are calling a Barn Quilt Paint Party. Coming up after the start of the new year, the Extension Office located at 94 Fairgrounds Drive will play host to the event with things taking place on January 25th from 9am until 3pm.
This special offering carries two different costs based on the size of the quilt you would like to paint. A 2×2 will cost $130 while a 3×3 will cost $190 – please note that this cost includes: all supplies like the board, paints, and brushes, and a provided lunch. The boards will all be primed and ready to paint, and you choice of colors can be made when you show up to participate. All registrations must be finalized and paid in full by the date of Friday, December 20th. To register you may call 606-474-6686.
Finally, it’s important to remember that no refunds will be offered on missed events but alternate arrangements will be made available. Today will see dumpster availability open to the West end of the county at the Maintenance Garage located along US 60. Dumpsters will be open today between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm.
The County Clean-Up has now extended their list of non-accepted items to include: refrigerators, deep freezers, or televisions that’s along with household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries – please note that none of these items will be collected. All garbage must also be bagged or boxed with no loose items being collected. The campaign is offered by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, and sees dumpsters made available at the county maintenance garages for community use.
It has been announced by those in charge of the County Cleanup Program that they will not be opening the dumpsters or having any active hours next week due to the Christmas holiday. That means that the dumpsters will not be open on the East end next week. Following this closure, the dumpsters will once again be opened in Olive Hill the following week – however they will only be open on Thursday, January 2nd and Friday, January 3rd.
