The magic of the season is returning to downtown Grayson, and this weekend, Main Street is about to shine brighter than ever. The Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce has officially released the details for one of the most cherished traditions of the year — the annual Grayson Christmas Parade, happening this Saturday, December 6th at 5:30 PM as part of our Hometown Holidays celebration.
This year’s theme, “Sweet Christmas Memories,” is all about the moments that make this season feel like home — the sparkle of lights against a winter sky, the laughter of kids bundled up in coats and mittens, and those classic small-town Christmas scenes that stay with us long after the holidays have passed.
Floats, families, churches, businesses — everyone’s invited to bring their creativity to life. And the Chamber will once again be handing out awards, including Best Use of Lights, Most Creative, Best Use of Theme, Best Overall, and Best Decorated Golf Cart or Side-By-Side. So if you’re participating, this is the year to go all out and let your Christmas spirit glow.
But the parade is just one piece of the holiday fun happening in Grayson this weekend. The North Pole is setting up shop at the Grayson Fire Department, where Santa and Mrs. Claus will be waiting to meet all the kiddos. And once those little smiling faces finish their visit with the big man himself, they’ll be treated to cookies and warm hot chocolate — the perfect way to kick off a winter evening.
And don’t forget the Reindeer Games taking place before the parade — another Hometown Holidays favorite that brings families together with festive activities and plenty of seasonal cheer.

The holiday season is rolling in, and with it comes one of Hitchins’ most beloved traditions — the 11th Annual Hitchins Christmas Parade, returning this year on Saturday, December 6th.
For more than a decade now, this parade has been the heartbeat of the Hitchins holiday season… a small-town celebration built on familiar faces, local pride, and the joy of seeing Main Street sparkle with Christmas spirit. Families line the road, kids wave to friends on the floats, and the community gathers in that only-in-Hitchins kind of way — where everyone feels like part of the same big holiday family.
Lineup for this year’s parade begins at noon on Old 773, with the parade officially stepping off at 1:00 PM sharp. Whether you’re planning to enter a float, bring out the fire engines and ATVs, decorate a vehicle, or simply cheer from the sidelines, organizers say there’s room for everyone to join in the fun.
The Hitchins Fire Department is once again coordinating this year’s event, and they are encouraging community groups, churches, clubs, and families to be part of the lineup. Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Western Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage along US 60 until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected. The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Grayson maintenance garage from December 10th through the 12th.
