It’s that time of year again where your friends from the Grayson Gallery and Art Center are opening their call for work for the February Final Friday that will look at all things Peace and Love. This month is one of the Gallery’s favorite events of the year and they want to go all out in stocking the location with amazing creations from our area’s local artists. As always up to three pieces of artwork per artist may be submitted on two open dates: Saturday, February 22nd and then again the following Monday, February 24th. On both of those dates the Gallery location at 310 East Main Street will be open between the hours of 10am and 2pm to accept work from participating artists. Also, please note that if you’d like to enter more than three pieces of your artwork then you’ll need to receive approval from the GGAC.
All submissions are required to be properly tagged and ready to display which includes the artist name, title, medium, and a price or marked not for sale if you have no interest in selling the piece. There is no entry for local artists to enter their art into a Final Friday event but please remember there will be a 20% commission – payable to the Gallery – for all sold works throughout the night. A registration form will be required to be completed and can be printed off and handed in with your art or done on site when dropping off your submissions.
All of the fun for this month’s Peace and Love 2025 Final Friday event on February 28th between 6 and 9pm. Along with the artwork and great company there will also be a special performance by the Appalachian Ladies Revue. The event is free but donations will be accepted at the door to help fund all of the great projects and events spearheaded by the Grayson Gallery and Art Center.

This evening will see the west end Olive Hill branch of your Carter County Public Library host a special Valentine’s Day party that begins at 4pm. At the party all participants will be decorating a Valentine’s Day Bag, exchanging cards, enjoying a story and activity, some delicious snacks, and even decorating cookies.
Remember that all of the fun can be found this Friday at the west end branch located at 110 Comet Drive in Olive Hill.

The Straight Creek Independent Freewill Baptist Church located in Denton has announced that it will be hosting a donation only spaghetti dinner this weekend on Saturday, February 15th at the church location which is 9640 Highway 773. All proceeds earned through this event are scheduled to go towards funeral expenses for Chris Seagraves.
Church officials have confirmed that they will begin serving at 12 noon and the service will continue until either 2pm or until all of the food runs out. Dine-in and take-out options will be available.
Once again that will be a donation only spaghetti dinner at the Straight Creek Independent Freewill Baptist Church this Saturday beginning at noon.

It has been announced by the office of the Carter County Clerk that both office locations will be closed this Saturday, that’s the date of February 15th through the coming Monday, February 17th. This closure is in observance of the Presidents Day holiday. Both office locations will be returning to their regular schedule on Tuesday, February 18th.

Today will see dumpster availability open to the West end of the county at the Maintenance Garage located along US 60. Dumpsters will be open today between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm but due to the weather and cold temperatures there may not be any assistance on site to help you unload your vehicle.
The County Clean-Up has now extended their list of non-accepted items to include: refrigerators, deep freezers, or televisions that’s along with household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries – please note that none of these items will be collected. All garbage must also be bagged or boxed with no loose items being collected. The campaign is offered by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, and sees dumpsters made available at the county maintenance garages for community use.
The county clean-up campaign works on a rotating schedule and offers opportunities for both Eastern and Western Carter County. Following their stay today they will be returning to the East end of the county Wednesday through Friday of next week. That’s the dates of February 19th through the 21st.
