Despite one of the wettest winters on record for the Bluegrass state we are now into the spring fire season for 2025, and emergency management officials want to remind everyone throughout our Carter County communities that this means it is currently illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland between the daytime hours of 6am to 6pm.
Our spring and forest fire seasons stem from the Kentucky Division of Forestry as they are mandated by law to provide for organized fire protection. Spring forest fire season begins each year on the date of February 15th and continues through April 30th.
It is recommended that before conducting any outdoor burning you reach out and check with your local fire department officials to check on the conditions and to ask about any restrictions or local ordinances that may be in place. Once again the 2025 spring forest fire season will continue through the date of Wednesday, April 30th.

Tonight it’ll be all about Peace and Love over at the Grayson Gallery and Art Center as they celebrate their annual February Final Friday. This month is one of the Gallery’s favorite events of the year and they have gone all out in stocking the location with amazing creations from our area’s local artists.
All of the fun for this month’s Peace and Love 2025 Final Friday event on February 28th between 6 and 9pm. Along with the artwork and great company there will also be a special performance by the Appalachian Ladies Revue. The event is free but donations will be accepted at the door to help fund all of the great projects and events spearheaded by the Grayson Gallery and Art Center.

It is a week later than originally planned, but today will finally see the February holding of the community food pantry distribution from your friends at the First Church of Christ. Originally scheduled for last Friday, the event was rained out and subsequently rescheduled for today. If you want to participate in the monthly giveaway then you are welcome to come out to the church location at 287 Pomeroy Street between the hours of 9am and 12 noon today. The food will be handed out on a first come and first served basis.
Please remember that you are not required to be an active member of the First Church of Christ to qualify for this food distribution. Everyone is welcome to come out and participate in the monthly community food pantry offerings.
Once again the February community food pantry will be held today from 9am until 12 noon at the First Church of Christ in Grayson.

Today will see dumpster availability open to the West end of the county at the Maintenance Garage located along US 60. Dumpsters will be open today between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm. Please remember that beginning this week the dumpster availability will be limited to two days per week.
The County Clean-Up has now extended their list of non-accepted items to include: refrigerators, deep freezers, or televisions that’s along with household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries – please note that none of these items will be collected. All garbage must also be bagged or boxed with no loose items being collected. The campaign is offered by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, and sees dumpsters made available at the county maintenance garages for community use.
The county clean-up campaign works on a rotating schedule and offers opportunities for both Eastern and Western Carter County. Following their stay today they will be returning to the East end of the county Thursday and Friday of next week. That’s the dates of March 6th and 7th.
