We are getting closer to the first big event of the new year from the Grayson Gallery and Art Center. This month they issued a call for work that was focusing simply on locally curated art – without limiting the theme, medium, design, or anything in between. For their upcoming January Final Friday event if a local artist made it then its welcome at the Grayson Gallery and Art Center. Collection dates have already been held to help stock our Gallery location, and now officials are hard at work preparing for the upcoming event which they hope will not only bring them returning faces, but also plenty of newcomers to enjoy all of the fun at the local Gallery.
As for details concerning this upcoming exhibit: the free event for artists and the community is set for the evening of Friday, January 31st and will be this month’s Final Friday event. Doors will be open at your Gallery location from 6 until 9pm.

The Carter County Extension Office will be playing host to an upcoming Bull Value Assessment Program which will be offering two sessions. Dates are scheduled for Thursday, February 13th and the 27th and will begin at approximately 6pm each evening. Session one will deal with breeding soundness exams, bull nutritional management, matching genetics to management, targeting for selected markets, and the tools needed for selection, while session two will hold a mock auction.
A meal will be provided for participants each evening and anyone wanting to attend this bull vale assessment program must attend both sessions. Registration is available now and is limited. We want to remind everyone that a new requirement is now in place for all Kentuckians when it comes to renewing their driver’s license which comes in the form of a vision screening and took effect on the date of January 1st 2025.
According to officials from the KYTC the new vision screening requirement has been enacted through the passed House Bill 439 and “will enhance highway safety by ensuring drivers maintain acceptable vision standards when behind the wheel.” Once this goes into effect at the start of the next calendar year it will essentially ensure that motorists benefit from periodic screenings throughout their driving career on a cycle of every four to eight years depending on the license lifespan they choose. This, in turn, allows drivers on our roadways the peace of mind in knowing that each driver possesses the necessary visual capabilities to safely operate a vehicle, respond to road conditions, and prevent crashes.

Today will see dumpster availability open to the East end of the county at the Maintenance Garage located in Grayson. Dumpsters will be open today between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm but due to the weather and cold temperatures there may not be any assistance on site to help you unload your vehicle.
The County Clean-Up has now extended their list of non-accepted items to include: refrigerators, deep freezers, or televisions that’s along with household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries – please note that none of these items will be collected. All garbage must also be bagged or boxed with no loose items being collected. The campaign is offered by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, and sees dumpsters made available at the county maintenance garages for community use.
The county clean-up campaign works on a rotating schedule and offers opportunities for both Eastern and Western Carter County. Following their stay today they will be returning to the West end of the county Wednesday through Friday of next week. That’s the dates of January 29th through the 31st.
