Even after a stretch of rough winter weather, one thing in Grayson is proving that the show really must go on.
The Grayson Gallery and Art Center is kicking off 2026 in style with the first Final Friday event of the year, and not even snow and ice could slow it down. The gallery will open its doors Friday night, January 30th, welcoming the community back for an evening of art, music, and connection.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Grayson Gallery and Art Center, and they’re starting strong with an exhibit open to all subjects and artistic mediums. Artists from across the region have contributed, with around 50 pieces on display, and most of them available for purchase. Whether you’re a longtime art lover or just looking for something new, there will be plenty to explore.
Final Friday runs from 6:00 until 9:00 Friday evening and is free and open to the public, with donations and musician tips welcomed. Around 7:45, the gallery will pause for awards and announcements, including updates on upcoming projects and four special honors recognizing standout pieces chosen by the gallery board, the public, and community partners.
Adding to the excitement, the night will feature live local music from Carter County’s own Sasha Colette and her band, The Magnolias. Known for their powerful blend of Appalachian-rooted rock and soul, the group brings big vocals, strong storytelling, and plenty of energy. The band is also celebrating new music, with an EP titled Back in Business and a regional tour planned for later this year.
Guests can also enjoy refreshments and hot food, with water and coffee available throughout the evening.
Looking ahead, the gallery says 2026 will be a big year, with a focus on growing memberships, welcoming volunteers, expanding art classes for both adults and children, and continuing to support local and regional artists. Upcoming shows include the Peace and Love Art Show opening February 27th, followed by Women in the Arts in March for Women’s History Month.

The scholarship season is now underway for students in the Grayson Rural Electric Cooperative service area.
Applications are open for the 2026 Grayson RECC Scholarship Program, offering local students the opportunity to earn financial assistance toward their college or training costs. Grayson RECC will award ten scholarships of one thousand dollars each, and students are encouraged to apply by March 6th, 2026.
To be eligible, applicants must be a high school senior or a non-traditional student, planning to enroll in or already enrolled in an accredited college, university, technical school, or job-training program of their choice. Entrants must also live on Grayson RECC lines, or be the dependent of a member whose account is located within the cooperative’s service area.
In addition to filling out the application, students are required to submit an essay of 250–500 words, describing an example of leadership and community contribution and how they hope to make a difference in the future. Applications also include lists of honors, activities, and achievements, as well as official transcripts.
Scholarship funds are paid directly to the educational institution once proof of enrollment has been provided, and awards will be applied toward the upcoming fall semester.
