If you’re looking for a way to celebrate Independence Day weekend with family, friends, and neighbors, Morehead’s Freedom Fest is set to bring an evening full of music, entertainment, and community spirit to downtown Morehead this weekend.
The annual celebration gets underway at 5:00 p.m. and features activities and attractions throughout the evening for visitors of all ages. Families can enjoy bounce houses located along First Street from 5:00 until 9:30 p.m., while live gospel music on the Gospel Stage will provide a soundtrack for the evening during those same hours.
One of the early highlights of the festival will be the Freedom Fest Pageant, scheduled from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on the Moonlight Stage. Music lovers will also find plenty to enjoy throughout the evening, beginning with a performance by the Cave Run Symphony Brass Band at 6:30 p.m. on the old police department steps.
Additional live entertainment includes Midnight Patrol taking the stage at Postal Square beginning at 7:00 p.m., followed by music at Battson-Oates Commons from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m. The evening’s featured musical act will be Blackwater Revival, a tribute to the legendary Doobie Brothers, performing at 8:00 p.m.
Organizers say Freedom Fest is designed to bring the community together while celebrating the nation’s independence through music, family activities, local vendors, and fellowship. Visitors are encouraged to spend the evening exploring downtown, supporting vendors, and enjoying the variety of entertainment scheduled throughout the event.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Eastern Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage in Grayson until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage on US 60 from June 24th through the 26th.
