Today should see the end of a weeklong scheduled roadwork project from the dedicated team at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Guardrail work has been ongoing this week on KY 182 in Echo Canyon and a traffic advisory has been in effect for motorists traveling along the route this week.
Back on Monday of this week, contractors began installing new guardrail in the Echo Canyon area, between US 60 (mile point 8.5) and KY 209 (mile point 9.7).
The work is expected to last approximately one week – and should finish up by the end of work hours today. During this time traffic is controlled by flaggers. Drivers should expect temporary delays in the area.
As always, officials remind motorists to slow down in work zones, follow all posted signs, and remain alert for workers and construction equipment.
Schedules may be adjusted in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen issues.

Golfers, it’s time to tee up for a great cause. The East Carter Middle School football team is inviting players to hit the greens this weekend at their annual Golf Scramble fundraiser.
The event will take place on Sunday, June 8th at Hidden Cove Golf Course, located at Grayson Lake Park Road in Olive Hill. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start scheduled for 9 a.m.
The format is a four-person scramble, with entry fees set at $75 per player or $300 per team. Optional packages are available for $25 per golfer or $100 per team, which include two mulligans and two skirts per player.
The tournament will also feature special prizes, including $25 gift cards on all Par 3s for closest to the pin, and a $25 gift card for longest drive on Hole 16. Payouts include $400 for first place and $200 for second.
Food and drinks will be provided throughout the event, making it a fun-filled day for everyone involved. Today will see the kick-off of another great holding of the Carter County Shrine Club horse show as it rides into Olive Hill today and tomorrow. Remember that now’s your chance to get ready for two evenings of tradition, talent, and horsepower. All this and more as the Carter County Shrine Club presents its annual Horse Show at the Carter County Shrine Club Show Grounds, located behind Olive Hill Elementary School at 155 Samuel L. Waggoner Memorial Drive. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the show begins at 6 p.m. both nights.
Admission is just $6 for adults, and kids under 12 get in free, making it an affordable night out for the whole family. Come out and enjoy a classic community event while supporting a great cause.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Western Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage along US 60 until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage in Grayson from June 11th through the 13th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
