Families looking for a fun and educational outdoor activity this spring will have an opportunity to explore nature up close during a special event coming to the area next month.
Carter Caves State Resort Park will host its Jr. Naturalist Day: Wildflowers program on Saturday, April 11th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the park’s Welcome Center.
Designed for children ages six through thirteen, the program gives young nature lovers a chance to learn about local wildflowers and the natural beauty found right here in Eastern Kentucky. Participants will enjoy a guided hike through the park, take part in a hands-on craft activity, and learn about responsible outdoor practices through a Leave No Trace presentation.
A lunch break is included during the day’s activities, and families are asked to bring a packed lunch. Organizers also recommend closed-toe shoes for anyone taking part in the outdoor hike.
The cost to participate is fifteen dollars per child, which includes a Junior Naturalist activity book, while parents and guardians may attend at no additional charge.
Park officials say the event is a great way for kids to connect with nature, learn new skills, and spend time outdoors as spring begins to bloom across the region.

A Job Fair and Hiring Event is set for Wednesday, March 25th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Kentucky Christian University Gymnasium, located at 100 Academic Parkway.
Organizers say this free event is designed to connect area employers with job seekers from across the region. Businesses interested in participating can reserve a spot now, while job seekers are encouraged to bring copies of their résumé and be prepared for possible on-the-spot interviews.
The hiring event is sponsored by Kentucky Christian University and the Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce, and organizers say it’s a great chance to build connections, explore career paths, and potentially walk away with a new opportunity.
Again, the Job Fair and Hiring Event is coming up March 25th from 10 to 1 at the KCU Gymnasium in Grayson.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Western Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage in Grayson until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage on US 60 from March 18th through the 20th.
