Carter County clean up dumpster will be on the EAST END this week and open Wednesday through Friday (10/14 - 10/16) 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM

A special event is on the way for young members of the community, as a local high school prepares to host a day designed to make memories that will last a lifetime.

The West Carter High School Lady Comets are inviting families to take part in the upcoming Lady Comet’s Princess Party, set for Saturday, April 18th from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

The event will be held at West Carter High School and is geared toward giving children a fun, interactive experience centered around creativity and imagination.

Those attending can look forward to a variety of activities throughout the afternoon, including princess photos, a jewelry station, hairstyle and makeup stations, along with cookies and juice provided. Children are also encouraged to come dressed in their favorite princess gown to fully take part in the experience.

Organizers say the goal is to create a welcoming and lighthearted environment where kids can enjoy time with friends, express themselves, and simply have fun.

The cost to attend is thirty-five dollars per child, or sixty dollars for two, and reservations are being taken now. Parents are asked to include their child’s name when making arrangements.

To RSVP or get more information, you can call 606-225-5282 or 606-356-7240.

Again, the Lady Comet’s Princess Party will take place Saturday, April 18th from noon until 2:00 p.m. at West Carter High School.

Families looking for a fun and educational outdoor activity this spring will have an opportunity to explore nature up close during a special event coming to the area next month.

Carter Caves State Resort Park will host its Jr. Naturalist Day: Wildflowers program on Saturday, April 11th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the park’s Welcome Center.

Designed for children ages six through thirteen, the program gives young nature lovers a chance to learn about local wildflowers and the natural beauty found right here in Eastern Kentucky. Participants will enjoy a guided hike through the park, take part in a hands-on craft activity, and learn about responsible outdoor practices through a Leave No Trace presentation.

A lunch break is included during the day’s activities, and families are asked to bring a packed lunch. Organizers also recommend closed-toe shoes for anyone taking part in the outdoor hike.

The cost to participate is fifteen dollars per child, which includes a Junior Naturalist activity book, while parents and guardians may attend at no additional charge.

Park officials say the event is a great way for kids to connect with nature, learn new skills, and spend time outdoors as spring begins to bloom across the region.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Eastern Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage in Grayson until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.

A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage on US 60 from March 18th through the 20th.

This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful. Let’s all do our part to keep Carter County looking its best.
