The Grayson Gallery & Art Center will host a special event Friday evening as part of its ongoing celebration of Women’s History Month.
The gallery’s 13th annual “Women in the Arts” exhibit will open with a free public reception this evening from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is part of Grayson’s monthly Final Fridays Art Walk and will feature an evening of artwork, live music, and refreshments, all centered around the work of female artists.
Organizers say more than 50 pieces have been submitted for this year’s exhibit, showcasing a variety of styles and subjects. The collection will remain on display at the gallery through mid-April.
Live music throughout the evening will be provided by the Appalachian Ladies Revue, a group focused on promoting women in the arts. Performers will include Katie Ann, Karen Combs, Whitney Hodges and Shirley Seim, also known as the Sugarbeats, along with Catrina Vargo. Each artist will take turns on stage, sharing original music across a range of styles.
Refreshments will also be available during the event, and while admission is free, donations at the door and tips for performers are encouraged to support the nonprofit gallery and its programming.
As part of the evening, several art awards will be presented around 7:45 p.m., including a People’s Choice award selected by attendees, along with honors chosen by the gallery board and event sponsors.
Gallery officials say the event not only highlights the work of regional female artists, but also provides an opportunity for the community to come together and support local creativity.
Again, the “Women in the Arts” opening reception will take place this evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Grayson Gallery & Art Center, and is open to the public.

A program designed to help Carter County farmers manage the cost of weed control this spring is now underway.
The Carter County Soil Conservation District has announced its 2026 Spring Chemical Cost Share Program, which will provide a 50/50 reimbursement for certain herbicide purchases used in the county’s noxious weed control efforts.
Under the program, any Carter County resident with a Carter County farm number may qualify to receive reimbursement for chemical purchases, up to 80 dollars per farm number.
Officials say there are a few requirements that participants will need to follow. Purchases must have been made on or after March first, and applicants must provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt along with documentation showing the payment method used.
Cash purchases will not be accepted for reimbursement, and documentation must show that the purchase was made using a credit card, debit card, or check.
The Soil Conservation District says reimbursements will be processed once each month for those who participate, and the program will continue until the available funding has been exhausted.
Receipts and documentation should be submitted to Courtney Bond at the Carter County Soil Conservation District office, located at 526 East Main Street in Grayson.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Western Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage along US 60 until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage in Grayson from April 1st through the 3rd.
