Memory Days continues today with another full afternoon and evening of food, music, reunions, and community fun happening throughout downtown. Food trucks begin serving at noon today, offering plenty of festival favorites as visitors make their way into town for the second day of festivities.
Starting at 4 o’clock this afternoon, vendors officially open for the evening, giving folks the chance to shop local crafts, specialty items, festival treats, and more. Also at 4 today, the Friends of the Library Book Sale gets underway at the Carter County Library on West Main Street. It’s a great opportunity to pick up a good read while supporting the library and its programs.
The Grayson Volunteer Fire Department will also host the “Duane Suttles Memorial Day BBQ” beginning at 4 o’clock at the fire department on East Third Street. Sponsored by First National Bank of Grayson, the event serves up great food while honoring a longtime community figure.
At 5 this evening, Bayless Memorial Presbyterian Church will host its free Ice Cream Social on East Second Street. Everyone is invited out to cool off, visit with neighbors, and enjoy a sweet Memory Days tradition. Also at 5, the East Carter High School Class of 1972 will gather for its annual reunion at Johnny’s Pizza on West Main Street as classmates reconnect and celebrate old memories during festival weekend. Live entertainment continues at 5 o’clock with Dance with Hope Studio performing at the Gazebo at Hord and Main Streets.
Then at 6 tonight, the East Carter High School Class of 1976 celebrates its 50th reunion at the Carter County Library — another special milestone during this year’s Memory Days celebration.
Tonight’s featured entertainment begins at 6 on the WGOH Stage at 127 East Main Street, sponsored by Grayson Tourism. Special guest emcee Cledus T. Judd will help kick off an evening of live music featuring Sasha Colette & The Magnolias and Kentucky favorite Chris Knight. Organizers remind everyone to bring a comfortable lawn chair and enjoy an evening of hometown entertainment under the lights.

A special meeting of the Grayson Tourism Commission is scheduled to be held this morning at 9am inside the Grayson City Building. They will be working with an agenda that includes, but is not limited to, the following items: acknowledgement of the resignation of Chairman Daniel White which was effective on the date of May 14th along the appointment and election of an interim Commission Chair member. Also on their list of business was to authorize a designated officer or representative, on behalf of the Commission, to execute legal services contract previously approved on May 14th, establishing and approving authorized bank checking account signatories for Commission accounts held at Commercial Bank, and ratifying bylaws adopted in February of this year.
Once again this is a special meeting of the Grayson Tourism Commission this morning at 9 o’clock.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Western Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage along US 60 until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage in Grayson from May 27th through May 29th.
