A legendary Kentucky-born musician is set to launch a summer filled with music in Grayson. Kentucky Christian University has announced the return of its summer concert series, and this year’s lineup is starting off on a high note.
Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder will take the stage at Nash Chapel on the KCU campus on Friday, June 20th at 7 p.m. A native of nearby Cordell in Lawrence County, Skaggs brings with him a remarkable career that spans more than 50 years.
A longtime member of the Grand Ole Opry, Skaggs has also been recognized by the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame, and the IBMA Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. In 2018, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and two years later, received the National Medal of Arts for his influence on American music.
The concert will feature Skaggs alongside his award-winning band, Kentucky Thunder, known for their mastery of traditional bluegrass sound. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting kcu.edu.
Music fans are encouraged to secure their seats early, as this performance is expected to draw a full house to kick off what promises to be a memorable summer concert season at KCU.

Today is the final day that LIHEAP will be accepting applications for their Summer Subsidy Program. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is back once again to help with cooling costs now that the temperature is beginning to rise. If you live in a household that is at or below 150% of the nation’s federal poverty guidelines then you are eligible to apply for the 2025 Spring Electric Cooling Subsidy Program.
No disconnection notice or past due billing statement is required, and any previous assistance does not affect your eligibility for this onetime payment assistance. For a more in depth look at the information for the 2025 Spring Electric Cooling Subsidy Program then you can log on to capky.org.
To apply you can pay your local Community Action Agency a visit – find your nearest location by calling 1-800-456-3452 or visit capky.org/network. The deadline to apply for the summer portion of LIHEAP is set for the end of business today. All funds will be given out on a first come, first serve basis.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Eastern Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage in Grayson until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage along US 60 in Olive Hill from June 4th through the 6th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
