There’s something special building in downtown Grayson—and if you’ve been waiting for a reason to get out, reconnect, and celebrate, the 55th Annual Grayson Memory Days is bringing it all together in a big way.
It all kicks off Thursday, May 21st with a full day of moments that set the tone. The Golden Age Gala, hosted by FirstLight Home Care, opens the celebration with a heartfelt tribute to some of the community’s most cherished members. Later that afternoon, storefronts across town come alive during the Memory Days Window Judging, and by 5:00, the official Opening Ceremonies take center stage—literally—on the WGOH Stage. Bring a chair, settle in, and feel that hometown energy start to build.
Friday keeps things rolling with a mix of tradition and flavor. The Carter County Library hosts a Friends of the Library Book Sale—perfect for finding your next great read—while the evening brings the mouthwatering “Duane Suttles Memorial Day BBQ” at the Grayson Volunteer Fire Department, a gathering that blends great food with community spirit.
And then comes Saturday—the day it all explodes into full celebration.
It starts early with the Memory Days 5K Run and Walk at sunrise, followed by the Carter County Cruisers Car Show, where polished chrome and classic rides line the streets. The ever-popular Dog Jog brings four-legged friends into the spotlight, adding a fun and family-friendly twist to the morning.
By midday, the excitement ramps up as parade lineup begins—and at 1:00, Main Street transforms into a sea of color, sound, and celebration for the Grayson Memory Days Parade. This year’s theme, “Growing Home,” says it all—honoring where we’ve been, while celebrating where we’re headed. With Grand Marshal Linda Webb leading the way, it’s a moment you won’t want to miss.
From music and food to cars, crafts, and community pride, Memory Days isn’t just an event—it’s a feeling. It’s neighbors becoming friends, traditions being passed down, and a town showing exactly what makes it special.

District Nine of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet issued a traffic advisory at the beginning of this week to notify drivers in Carter County of ongoing slide repairs on KY 773.
From 8am to 3pm throughout today contractors will be temporarily closing part of KY 773 (mile point 5.1) approximately 1.5 miles from Hitchens, to work on a slide repair. The repair is expected to take a week. Traffic should watch for flaggers directing traffic. Motorists can expect significant traffic delays and can detour using KY 1396 to KY1496 to KY 1.
Road work schedules may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Western Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage along US 60 until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage in Grayson from May 13th through May 15th.
