The Grayson Gallery and Art Center is putting out a call for work for one of their most popular traditions of the year — the Annual Halloween Art Show! This year, the gallery is going all out by hosting the opening reception on Halloween night itself — Friday, October 31st, from 6 to 9 p.m. And yes, there will be a costume contest, so be sure to dress for the occasion.
Artists of all kinds are invited to join in the fun by submitting their work. You can drop off up to three original pieces at the gallery, located at 301 East Third Street in Grayson, on either Saturday, October 18th or Monday, October 20th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Works in any medium are welcome — from a classic autumn landscape to something truly spine-chilling and wild. There are no entry fees, and only a small 20 percent commission applies to sold works to help support the gallery’s ongoing operations.
All art should be ready to display, properly wired or tagged, with artist information included. Submissions from prior shows are also welcome. Four $50 awards will be given during the opening reception, including the GGAC Board Choice, the Brandon Click Art Memorial Award, the Pen Lady’s Choice, and a People’s Choice Award decided by popular vote.
The reception will also feature live music from a local favorite, “From the Hills,” delicious refreshments, and of course, the costume contest that always brings a few surprises.

Both Grayson and Olive Hill have officially set their community Trick or Treat night for Wednesday, October 30th, from 6 until 8 PM. Families are invited to dress up, grab a bucket or bag, and enjoy two full hours of candy, costumes, and spooky fun.
And it’s not just about going door-to-door — every year, many of our local churches, businesses, and organizations also host Trunk-or-Treats and other special events, giving kids even more safe and exciting opportunities to celebrate the Halloween season.
It’s the perfect way for the whole community to come together — whether you’re handing out candy, walking your kids from house to house, or stopping by one of the many Trunk-or-Treats happening around town.

Get ready to light up the night in a way you’ve never seen before… with the Pumpkin Carving Workshop at Carter Caves State Resort Park.
On Wednesday, October 23rd from 5 to 7 PM, you’re invited to the Welcome Center for a free, hands-on pumpkin carving event. Pumpkins and carving tools will be provided while supplies last — but you’re more than welcome to bring your own and join the fun.
Once your spooky masterpiece is finished, the real magic happens — take it to Cascade Cave, where it will become part of the glowing Jack-o’-Lantern Cave display! Imagine walking into the cave filled with glowing faces, all carved by our community.
And if you already have a pumpkin carved and ready to go, bring it straight to the cave and add it to the display. Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Western Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage along US 60 until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Grayson maintenance garage from October 15th through the 17th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
