Fall is officially making its way into Olive Hill, and the community is getting ready to celebrate with a full day of family fun during the Olive Hill Hometown Harvest this Saturday.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Depot in Olive Hill, with plenty of activities planned for visitors of all ages. The Hometown Harvest is all about enjoying the season while supporting the local community, with vendors, food, entertainment and several fun contests throughout the day.

Kids and families can take part in a Halloween Costume Contest, while those looking to show off their fall creativity can enter the Pumpkin Decorating Contest or try their hand at Pumpkin Painting.

The Olive Hill Fire Department will also be taking part with a special Pumpkin Drop, adding a little excitement to the festivities. Music and entertainment will be provided throughout the event, including DJ JD Rayburn, along with a live chainsaw artist creating artwork right before your eyes.

And, of course, there will be plenty of opportunities to shop and support local businesses and vendors while enjoying the atmosphere of downtown Olive Hill.

Organizers are inviting everyone to come out, bring the family, enjoy some good food and entertainment, and spend part of the day celebrating the community and the arrival of the fall season. Again, the Olive Hill Hometown Harvest is this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Depot in Olive Hill.

Come out, shop, eat, play and support local during a day designed to bring the community together.

If you’re a farmer in Carter County, there will be another opportunity to learn more about a program that could provide some valuable assistance for your agricultural operation. The Carter County Conservation District is getting ready to hold the second offering of its annual CAIP Informational Meeting, giving local farmers a chance to learn more about the County Agricultural Investment Program, commonly known as CAIP.

The meeting will be held on Saturday, October 3rd, at 9 o’clock in the morning at the Carter County Extension Office, located at 94 Fairground Drive in Grayson.

The informational meetings are designed to help local farmers learn more about CAIP, including the program and what they need to know to participate. There is an important requirement to keep in mind: you must have a Carter County farm number in order to participate.

The Conservation District also points out that attendance at this meeting does not count as an educational credit, so the purpose here is specifically to provide information about the County Agricultural Investment Program and help farmers understand what’s available.

Whether you’re already familiar with CAIP or you’ve never participated before, this is a good opportunity to get the information directly from the Carter County Conservation District and ask questions about the program.

If you need additional information, you can contact the Carter County Conservation District at 606-898-2619. You can also reach them by email at carterconservationdistrict@gmail.com.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Eastern Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage in Grayson until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.

A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage located along US 60 from October 7th through the 9th.

This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful. Let’s all do our part to keep Carter County looking its best.
