City of Grayson Emergency Management is working to establish a new public safety program in our area. To ensure your loved one is safe, the City of Grayson is utilizing an automated check-in service called ConfirmOK to support older residents, ages 55 and up, living by themselves. Automated alerts will allow first responders to be dispatched and assure help arrives quickly during an emergency. Grayson EM will begin a pilot program for twelve residents who live within the city limits.
Grayson City residents will sign up to receive a phone call at a time convenient for them Monday through Friday. When the phone number, 606-331-5016, comes across the phone, the resident will pick up the phone and press 1. This will notify ConfirmOK that the person is okay. If the call is not accepted then the automated system will retry two more times. If no one answers, Dispatch will be notified so an officer from the Grayson Police Department can check on the person.
Unfortunately, four people have been found deceased in Grayson through August. We don’t want another statistic. If responders believe a medical emergency is happening and the resident cannot answer the phone, the person may be found sooner.
Applications may be picked up at Walgreens, Horton Brothers & Brown, Med- Save, or Primary Plus. City EM will be the lead in this program. You may drop your form off at the Grayson City Building or Grayson Fire Department. If you need help in filling out the form, City Emergency Management will be glad to come to your home and fill out the application with you. For questions, call 606-315-4119.

The Kentucky State Police is hitting the green today as their Trooper Island Golf Scramble is set to tee off for a very special cause.
While this is certainly an opportunity to spend a day on the golf course with friends, coworkers, or fellow members of the community, the reason behind the event is what really makes it special. The proceeds support Kentucky State Police Trooper Island, a program that has been helping Kentucky children for decades.
Trooper Island was established by the Kentucky State Police in 1965 and provides a free summer camp experience for children, giving them the opportunity to spend a week enjoying outdoor activities, building confidence, learning about teamwork and leadership, and developing positive relationships with Kentucky State Police troopers.
For the children who get to experience Trooper Island, it’s about much more than a week away from home. It’s an opportunity to make memories, learn new skills, and build relationships with troopers and other kids from across the Commonwealth. Thank you to everyone involved for their help supporting the Kentucky State Police Trooper Island program and the young people it serves.

Today marks the final opportunity this week for residents in Eastern Carter County to take advantage of the county-wide clean-up campaign, as dumpsters will be available at the Carter County Maintenance Garage in Grayson until 2:30 p.m. The Solid Waste Department reminds all participants that dumpster access has now returned to its regular three-day weekly schedule and urges the public to follow the updated disposal guidelines.
A number of items will not be accepted, including refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries. In addition, all items must be either bagged or boxed — loose trash will not be collected.
The Carter County Clean-Up campaign operates on a rotating schedule, providing disposal opportunities for both the eastern and western ends of the county. After today’s event, dumpsters will return to the maintenance garage located along US 60 from September 23rd through the 25th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful. Let’s all do our part to keep Carter County looking its best.
