Carter County clean up dumpster will be on the EAST END this week and open Wednesday through Friday (10/14 - 10/16) 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM

If you travel through Greenup County, you’ll want to plan a little extra time for your drive.

Road crews are getting to work on a paving project along KY 2070, covering just over three and a half miles from the very beginning of the route up to mile point 3-point-6. The work kicked off this morning and will continue through next Friday, April 10th, weather permitting.

Crews will be on site each day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and drivers should expect flagged traffic throughout the project. That means brief delays and alternating one-lane traffic as paving moves along.

The project is being handled by Mountain Enterprises under a contract with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, with the goal of smoothing out and improving this stretch of roadway for local drivers.

If you’re heading that way, officials are asking you to slow down, stay alert, and keep an eye out for workers and equipment in the area.

Again, paving on KY 2070 in Greenup County is underway now and expected to wrap up by April 10th—just in time for smoother travels ahead.

A community presentation focused on online safety is planned next month in Carter County, aimed at helping adults better understand the risks children face online.

The event will take place Tuesday, April 14th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Prichard Elementary School. It will feature a cyber safety presentation led by a detective with the Kentucky State Police.

Organizers say the presentation will cover the realities of online activity and how it can impact children, including potential risks and ways parents and guardians can better protect their families.

The event is sponsored by the Carter County Family Resource and Youth Services Center, and is free and open to the public. However, officials stress that the presentation is intended for adults only. Due to the nature of the material being discussed, parents are asked not to bring children.

Light refreshments will be available during the evening.

Organizers say the goal is to provide straightforward, practical information that can help families stay informed and prepared when it comes to online safety.

Again, that cyber safety presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Prichard Elementary School, and is open to adults in the community.

Carter County residents will have an opportunity to pick up free trees as part of an annual giveaway aimed at supporting conservation and replanting efforts.

The Carter County Soil Conservation District will host its 2026 Annual Tree Giveaway on Friday, April 3rd. Organizers say a variety of seedlings will be available while supplies last.

This year’s selection includes hazelnut, white pine, and black locust trees, with a limited number of each species being distributed. Officials say the program is designed to encourage tree planting across the area, helping with soil conservation, wildlife habitat, and overall environmental health.

The giveaway is open to the public and is typically offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so residents are encouraged to arrive early if they are interested in participating.

Events like this are part of the district’s ongoing efforts to promote responsible land use and conservation practices throughout Carter County.
