Prichard Elementary gears up to go Back-to-School with supplies, camps, and an open house. With the first day of school fast approaching, Prichard Elementary is setting students up for success through a series of events designed to get the year off to a strong start.
School Kickoff will be today from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. During this time the PFRC (Prichard Family Resource Center) is hosting a School Kickoff event at the Family Resource Building. Families are welcome to stop by to pick up free school supplies and backpacks—a helping hand as the school year begins.
Then a Kindergarten Camp is up next on August 12th when incoming kindergarten students will have a special opportunity to explore their new school and meet some familiar faces.
Students with last names A–M should attend from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. Followed by students with last names N–Z attending from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. It’s a chance for little learners to get comfortable and excited before the first bell rings.
Finally the Back-to-School Open House is scheduled for August 20th from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. That evening students and families are invited back to school for an evening where visitors can meet teachers, check out classrooms, and get a preview of what’s ahead for the school year.

In recognition of National Grief Awareness Day, Community Hospice invites the community to gather for a special Balloon Release on Friday, August 29 at the Port of Ashland. This meaningful event honors the memory of loved ones and offers support to those navigating their grief journey, whether through hospice care or any other circumstance.
Balloon pick-up will begin at 1:30 PM, with brief remarks and the release at 2:00 PM. Biodegradable balloons will be provided at no cost by Community Hospice. Attendees will have the opportunity to personalize their balloon before being released in a collective moment of remembrance and reflection.
“This event is a meaningful opportunity for individuals and families to come together, acknowledge their grief, and honor those they’ve lost in a supportive and compassionate environment,” said Rachel Swindler, Director of Bereavement & Counseling Services at Community Hospice.
The event is free, open to the public, and no registration is required. We invite the community to come together, to support one another, and to reflect on the people we carry in our hearts.

Car lovers, mark your calendars! The 8th Annual Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Car Show is rolling into Olive Hill on Saturday, August 16th.
Held at 10824 West US Highway 60 in Olive Hill, the event is free to attend and promises a showcase of classic cars, custom builds, and eye-catching rides from across the region.
Registration runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with the show officially underway from 12:00 to 2:00 PM.
Hosted by Clark’s Pump-N-Shop and John W. Clark Oil Company, the event is a great way to spend a summer afternoon, whether you’re entering your vehicle or just coming to admire the chrome and craftsmanship. Once again that’s the 8th annual Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Car Show on Saturday, August 16th.

As the new school year approaches, The Cinema at Camp Landing is inviting the community to come together and support local students in need through its Back-to-School Supply Drive, now underway through August 24th.
Guests are encouraged to drop off new school supplies — everything from pencils and notebooks to crayons, scissors, and glue sticks — in the theater lobby. Every donation helps ensure that children across the region head into the classroom this fall with the tools they need to succeed.
