As the holidays draw near, the kitchen becomes the heart of the home — a place where families gather, stories get shared, and simple meals turn into memories. And this December, a group of local organizations is coming together to help families make those moments a little easier, a little warmer, and a lot more affordable.
Operation Care Family Resource Center, Pathways, and the Carter County Extension Service — Family & Consumer Sciences — are teaming up to present a special event called “Share a Meal, Share Love.” It’s part of their F.E.A.S.T. initiative — Families Eating and Sharing Together — built around one simple idea: eating together strengthens bonds. It builds joy, creates understanding, and reminds us how important it is to slow down and truly connect.
On December 8th, from 5:30 to 7 PM, Olive Hill Elementary will open its cafeteria for an evening all about Holiday Meals on a Thrifty Budget. It’s a hands-on chance for families to learn how to stretch their dollars during the busiest season of the year without sacrificing flavor, fun, or togetherness. And best of all — a free meal is provided for every family who attends.
Space is limited to 25 Olive Hill Elementary families, and registration is required by December 5th. You can sign up easily by scanning the QR code on the flyer, or reach out directly if you have questions. The event will be held at 825 Tom T. And here’s a bonus: free crockpots will be available while supplies last, along with recipes and dinner ideas families can take home and try for themselves. It’s a small gift that can make a big difference long after the event is over.

The Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce has officially announced details for one of the community’s most beloved holiday traditions — the annual Grayson Christmas Parade, set for Saturday, December 6th at 5:30 PM.
This year’s theme, “Sweet Christmas Memories,” captures everything we love about the holidays — the laughter of children, the glow of Christmas lights, and those timeless moments shared with family, friends, and neighbors.
Entries are now being accepted for floats, groups, and organizations wanting to take part in this year’s parade. Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive a confirmation, and final lineup positions will be announced just before parade day.

Cinema Camp Landing is calling on the community to “Do Some Wicked Good” this holiday season by joining a special partnership with Hope’s Place Child Advocacy Center to help provide Christmas gifts for children throughout the region.
Beginning immediately, guests visiting Cinema Camp Landing can select an ornament tag from the lobby’s holiday display – each tag represents a local child served by Hope’s Place. Supporters are invited to shop for the items listed on the tag and return gifts to the cinema no later than December 12.
Hope’s Place Child Advocacy Center provides services and support to children who have experienced abuse or trauma, helping ensure their safety, healing, and well-being. Donations from this holiday initiative help bring comfort, normalcy, and joy to these children during the Christmas season.
Community members can participate by visiting Cinema Camp Landing, selecting a tag, and returning unwrapped gifts with the tag attached. All items will be delivered directly to Hope’s Place for distribution to local families.
