We would like to remind you that your local Carter Caves State Resort Park is currently closed due to this week’s holiday festivities. It has been announced by park administrators that the park will remain closed until this Friday, December 27th. This closure will ensure that all of the hardworking and dedicated staff of Carter Caves are given the chance to enjoy the Christmas season with their friends and loved ones.
During this time all facilities including the lodge and the visitor center will be closed. Although the official facilities will be closed to the public, Carter Caves would like you to know that the hiking trails will remain open for visitors to enjoy. Finally, everyone from the Carter Caves Staff wants to wish their community a happy holidays.
Carter Caves State Resort Park is located at 344 Caveland Drive in Olive Hill, Kentucky. Accommodations are available at the Lewis Caveland Lodge, along with cottages and a campground. For more information about park lodgings, dining, and hiking you’re invited to visit parks.ky.gov.

A closure is also being observed by Greenbo Lake State Resort Park. This closure will remain in effect through next Thursday, December 26th. The current plan is for Greenbo to reopen on December 27th for their regular business.

We want to remind you about news that hit earlier in the year concerning a new requirement for all Kentuckians when it comes to renewing their driver’s license straight from the Kentucky Transpiration Cabinet. This requirement will be in the form of a vision screening and is set to take affect beginning on the date of January 1st 2025.
According to officials from the KYTC the new vision screening requirement has been enacted through the passed House Bill 439 and “will enhance highway safety by ensuring drivers maintain acceptable vision standards when behind the wheel.” Once this goes into effect at the start of the next calendar year it will essentially ensure that motorists benefit from periodic screenings throughout their driving career on a cycle of every four to eight years depending on the license lifespan they choose. This, in turn, allows drivers on our roadways the peace of mind in knowing that each driver possesses the necessary visual capabilities to safely operate a vehicle, respond to road conditions, and prevent crashes.

Your friends from the Carter County Animal Shelter are joining in for the season of giving by hosting their very own supply drive which is ongoing now and will continue through the end of the 2024 holiday season. The annual event aims at collecting goods to donate to pet owners across the county and is accepting items such as: dog food, treats, collars, leashes, towels, Dawn dish soap, bleach, and any variant of toy that our fluffy friends enjoy. All items that could help Carter County’s pet owners will be greatly appreciated and accepted.
A donation box has been set up outside of the Judge Executive’s Office located on the second floor of the Carter County Courthouse in Grayson at 300 West Main Street. Donations can also be dropped off directly at the shelter.
