The Carter County FRYSC is stepping up in the form of a cleaning supply drive to bring the community together in collaboration to help those in need from Pike County due to recent flooding. The drive is set to collect items such as: mops, brooms, Clorox wipes, gallon or larger ziplock bags, hand sanitizer, tissues, and so much more. Collection will be ongoing this week through the date of Thursday, February 27th. Drop off of items will be open between 8am and 3pm each day through the deadline date, and all items can be dropped off at the Family Resource Center at your local school.
Other items being collected include shovels and buckets, gloves, toilet paper, paper towels, heaters, trash bags, etc. If you have any questions about whether an item will be accepted or what you can do to get involved and help you are being asked to call the Carter County FRYSC at 606-474-6696.Cash donations are being accepted as well and will be used to purchase the supplies that are needed most.

The Carter County Health Department is currently in the process of trying to gauge public interest in a partnership with KARE to offer a mobile dental clinic at the Grayson location at 105 Robert & Mary Ave. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in participating in this potential partnership then you are being asked to visit the Carter County Health Department on Facebook and visiting a link they have posted to a Google Docs document. The document is an official survey that will help the Health Department determine how many in our community would be interested in using the mobile dental clinic.

Grayson Rural Electric has officially opened the application period for this year’s scholarship deadline. Any interested student that is about to graduate and would like a chance at the 2025 scholarship should download and complete the online form found at graysonrecc.com/scholarship-program. A physical form may also be picked up from your high school guidance counselor.
According to the details of the scholarship program 10 $1000 scholarships will be awarded to students who meet several criteria. A list of the aforementioned criteria can be found on the application itself and viewed online.

It’s that time of year again where your friends from the Grayson Gallery and Art Center are opening their call for work for the February Final Friday that will look at all things Peace and Love. This month is one of the Gallery’s favorite events of the year and they want to go all out in stocking the location with amazing creations from our area’s local artists. As always up to three pieces of artwork per artist may be submitted today at the Gallery location at 310 East Main Street from 10am and 2pm to accept work from participating artists. Also, please note that if you’d like to enter more than three pieces of your artwork then you’ll need to receive approval from the GGAC.
All submissions are required to be properly tagged and ready to display which includes the artist name, title, medium, and a price or marked not for sale if you have no interest in selling the piece. There is no entry for local artists to enter their art into a Final Friday event but please remember there will be a 20% commission – payable to the Gallery – for all sold works throughout the night. A registration form will be required to be completed and can be printed off and handed in with your art or done on site when dropping off your submissions.
All of the fun for this month’s Peace and Love 2025 Final Friday event on February 28th between 6 and 9pm. Along with the artwork and great company there will also be a special performance by the Appalachian Ladies Revue. The event is free but donations will be accepted at the door to help fund all of the great projects and events spearheaded by the Grayson Gallery and Art Center.
