We’re officially into a new penalty period for all remaining unpaid Carter County Property tax bills. Here’s another reminder that when mailing in your payment you are being asked to include a postcard or to write the bill number on the check which you are paying with. Please note that if you want to receive a paid receipt for this payment then you must enclose a self-addressed and stamped envelope with the check.
Payments will also be accepted through Visa and Master Card platforms both over the phone and at the Sherriff’s office in person – however a small additional fee will be applied to all credit card payments no matter the method used. The Carter County Sheriff’s Department works under the mailing address of P.O. Box 1590, Grayson, KY 41143.
Currently payment penalties have increased to a 10% penalty along with an additional 10% Sheriff’s add-on fee. Please note that all delinquent tax bills will be transferred to the County Clerk’s Office as of the close of business on April 15th, 2025.In addition to the penalties and fees that are applied by the Sheriff’s Office, all payments made in the County Clerk’s Office are subject to a 20% County Attorney’s Fee, a 10% County Clerk’s Fee and additional interest equal to 1% per month. The delinquency is also subject to being sold to a Third Party in the summer of 2025.

King’s Daughters Medical Center has announced that the application period for their annual AED Donation Program is now open. 2025 will mark its sixth year and during its tenure the AED Donation Program of King’s Daughters Health Foundation and King’s Daughters Auxiliary has provided more than 150 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to community organizations throughout the UK King’s Daughters service area.
Organizers of the event are pleased to announce that applications for the 2025 program are open now through the date of Friday, Feb. 7. AED awards will be announced towards the end of February.
To be eligible, applicants must be an IRS-designated non-profit organization. Awards are based on community need, with priority given to: first responders, especially in rural areas, organizations that are open/serve the public 24/7, organizations that don’t currently have an AED, and organizations located in or serving residents of Carter, Boyd, Lawrence, Elliott, Floyd, Greenup, Johnson, Lawrence, Lewis, Scioto and Martin Counties throughout Kentucky and Ohio.
Successful applicants will be required to attest to the organization’s ability to maintain, use, and secure the AED appropriately. At least one individual representing the organization will be required to undergo AED training or provide documentation of such training.
Organizations wishing to be considered for an AED must complete the application form and submit it, along with an exclusion screening form. The Carter County Extension Office will be playing host to an upcoming Bull Value Assessment Program which will be offering two sessions. Dates are scheduled for Thursday, February 13th and the 27th and will begin at approximately 6pm each evening. Session one will deal with breeding soundness exams, bull nutritional management, matching genetics to management, targeting for selected markets, and the tools needed for selection, while session two will hold a mock auction.
A meal will be provided for participants each evening and anyone wanting to attend this bull vale assessment program must attend both sessions. Registration is available now and is limited. The Grayson Free Will Baptist Church is hosting a special Soup-er Bowl Sunday donation event to help them stock their food pantry. It will be held on Sunday, February 9th at the church location where those interested in helping out can meet up to drop off all of their collected cans of soup to food pantry volunteers.
