Tomorrow will be the second holding this month of the Healthy Baby virtual workshop brought to you by a collaboration between the Carter County Health Department, Pathways, and the KY-Moms. The program is designed for those that are pregnant or up to 60 days postpartum in Carter and our surrounding counties such as Boyd and Rowan – with the additional requirement of no participants having previously attended a KY-Moms Health Baby Workshop. All participants are set to receive a $50 Walmart gift card.

In more news from your local Health Department – they recently shared that January is National Blood Donor Month. Here in the United States it is estimated that someone needs blood every two seconds. Throughout the Bluegrass state there’s a need for 400 donors every single day to meet the needs of the patients of our state. A single donation – although it may seem minor – could be the key to helping to save multiple lives.
You can find a location to donate close to home at the Kentucky Blood Center website or by using the free Blood Donor app from the American Red Cross. Visit kentuckybloodcenter.org for more information and the Carter County Health Department is reminding you to help save a life by giving blood.

Those that have yet to pay their unpaid Carter County Property taxes are running out of time to do so during this first round of penalties. Here’s another reminder that when mailing in your payment you are being asked to include a postcard or to write the bill number on the check which you are paying with. Please note that if you want to receive a paid receipt for this payment then you must enclose a self-addressed and stamped envelope with the check.
Payments will also be accepted through Visa and Master Card platforms both over the phone or at the Sherriff’s office in person – however a small additional fee will be applied to all credit card payments no matter the method used. The Carter County Sheriff’s Department works under the mailing address of P.O. Box 1590, Grayson, KY 41143.
Currently these bills carry a 5% penalty on all payments increasing to a 10% penalty along with an additional 10% Sheriff’s add-on fee beginning in February. Please note that all delinquent tax bills will be transferred to the County Clerk’s Office as of the close of business on April 15th, 2025.In addition to the penalties and fees that are applied by the Sheriff’s Office, all payments made in the County Clerk’s Office are subject to a 20% County Attorney’s Fee, a 10% County Clerk’s Fee and additional interest equal to 1% per month. The delinquency is also subject to being sold to a Third Party in the summer of 2025.

Tomorrow will also be the scheduled date for the East Carter Tennis Informational meeting will be held at 4pm inside the ECMS cafeteria. All 3rd grade through high school students along with their parents or guardians are being asked to attend.
Tennis tryouts are set to begin on Monday, February 17th at 5:15pm, and they will continue every Friday at the same time at the ECMS courts throughout February with weather permitting. These practices will be open to all 3rd grades through high school aged students. Completed physicals must be brought to the tryouts.
