There are some big changes in the Carter County education landscape as leadership shifts in both public and private schools. It’s a season of change for education here in Carter County, as both the public school system and Carter Christian Academy prepare to usher in new leadership ahead of the upcoming academic year.
The Carter County Board of Education has officially announced the upcoming retirement of Superintendent Dr. Paul Green, effective July 31, 2025. Dr. Green’s leadership has played a significant role in guiding the district through recent challenges and successes, and his retirement marks the end of an era for the school system.
To ensure a smooth and legal transition, the Kentucky School Boards Association will be assisting with the search and selection process for a new superintendent. Their involvement will help guarantee that all steps align with Kentucky Revised Statutes, as the district looks to the future.
At the same time, Carter Christian Academy in Hitchins has opened its own search for a new Administrator to lead the school into its next chapter. The academy is looking for a candidate with strong leadership skills, a passion for Christian education, and the ability to foster both academic excellence and spiritual development.
According to the academy’s announcement, the Administrator will work closely with teachers, parents, and the Board of Directors to nurture a Christ-centered learning environment that reflects the values of the school community.

Also, don’t forget that Carter County Schools is once again stepping up to make sure no child goes hungry this summer. The district’s Summer Meals Program will run from through August 1, providing free meals to students across the county—even while school is out.
Open to all children, the program offers both dine-in and drive-thru options to make access as easy as possible for busy families. Meals will be served Monday through Friday until that August 1st deadline. Dine-in locations include: East Carter Middle School and West Carter High School, with drive-thru options available at Olive Hill Elementary School and Prichard Elementary School however please note that all drive-thru participants must be in line by 1:00 P.M.

The Olive Hill City Pool and Splash Pad is officially open for the 2025 summer season, offering families a fun and affordable way to beat the heat.
The facility is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with daily admission set at $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 and under. Kids 2 and under swim free with a paying adult.
Season passes are available for those planning to visit often—$40.00 for individuals or $100.00 for a family of up to five. The pool is also available for private parties beginning at 6:00 p.m., with rental options starting at $75.00 for two hours or $110.00 for three hours. Lifeguards are included in the price.
To keep the space safe and enjoyable for everyone, pool rules include: children under 10 must be accompanied by a responsible adult, no smoking, alcohol, foul language, or rough play, no food or drinks in the pool area and no glass containers allowed. Finally, the Splash Pad is intended for younger children only.
