The Carter County Soil Conservation District and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service are inviting local residents to take part in an upcoming community meeting focused on the future of our region’s natural resources.
A Local Work Group Meeting will be held Tuesday, June 2nd at 10 AM at the Carter County Extension Office, located at 94 Fairground Drive in Grayson.
Organizers say the meeting gives community members a chance to have a direct voice in shaping local conservation priorities and discussing the management of important natural resources throughout Carter County and the surrounding area.
Topics can include soil conservation, water quality, farmland preservation, forestry concerns, wildlife habitat, and other environmental issues that impact local communities every day.
Officials say public input is a major part of the process, and residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share ideas about the future of conservation efforts here in Eastern Kentucky.
The meeting is open to the public, and organizers hope farmers, landowners, outdoor enthusiasts, and community members alike will take advantage of the opportunity to get involved.

Families across Carter County are invited to kick off the summer season with a day full of fun, games, and outdoor excitement at this year’s Longest Day of Play event in Grayson.
Hosted by the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service and Grayson Sports Park, the free community event will take place Monday, June 22nd from 10 AM until 1 PM at Grayson Sports Park.
Organizers say the event is all about celebrating summer, staying active, and giving local kids and families a chance to get outside and enjoy everything the park has to offer.
The day will feature access to the playground and splash pad, along with music, outdoor games, obstacle courses, art activities, giveaways, story time, and plenty more family-friendly fun throughout the afternoon.
Community leaders say events like this help bring families together while encouraging children to stay active, creative, and engaged during summer break.
Best of all, the event is completely free and open to the public, making it a great opportunity for families looking for a fun and affordable way to spend a summer day together.

The East Carter Youth Service Center is preparing for another summer of fun, learning, and activities as registration information begins rolling out for Camp ECMS 2026.
The free summer camp will take place June 8th through the 10th at East Carter Middle School and is open to incoming sixth through eighth grade students. Camp activities will run each day from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM, with breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided for participants.
Organizers say this year’s camp will feature a wide variety of activities designed to keep students active, engaged, and learning throughout the summer break. Planned activities include swimming, tennis, art, real-life skills lessons, a trip to Malibu Jacks, and even a BMX show.
The camp is sponsored by the East Carter Youth Service Center and has become a popular summer opportunity for local middle school students. Families are encouraged to watch for permission slips and online registration information in the coming days.
Officials say space will be limited, and parents are encouraged to complete registration forms as soon as possible once they become available.
