A reminder for local farmers participating in this year’s County Agriculture Investment Program—also known as CAIP—the next big deadline is quickly approaching.
CAIP is a vital initiative made possible through the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund, providing financial support to help farmers make meaningful improvements to their operations. Eligible investment areas range from agricultural diversification and farm infrastructure to innovative ag systems and more.
While the application period has already closed, those approved for the program now face a critical next step. According to the Carter County Soil and Conservation District, all required documentation for CAIP producers must be submitted no later than June 30th.
That documentation includes a producer’s report, valid receipts from the approved six-month retroactive period, and proof of payment such as cancelled checks or bank statements. Participants must also complete the program’s educational requirement within that same six-month retroactive period—but it’s important to note that BQCA, SRQA, and PQA trainings cannot be used to meet the education requirement if your selected investment area falls under those categories. Any specific investment area prerequisites must also be met.
And finally, once paperwork has been turned in, site visits will be conducted to ensure compliance and completion of approved projects.
Producers are encouraged to reach out to the Carter County Soil and Conservation District if they have any questions or need assistance meeting the June 30th deadline.

The annual Carter County Poetry Society’s contest is officially underway, and writers of all ages are encouraged to pick up their pens and share their creativity.
This beloved tradition gives local poets a chance to showcase their talent, whether they’re seasoned writers or just beginning to explore the world of verse. As always, elementary, middle, and high school students can enter the contest completely free of charge—offering young voices a special opportunity to express themselves and be recognized for their words.
Brochures with full details on contest rules and categories are now available at both branches of the Carter County Public Library, making it easy for interested writers to get involved.

The Grayson Fire Department is revving up for a day full of fun, food, and fantastic vehicles with their upcoming Fire & Smoke Car Show, set for Saturday, June 14th.
This special Flag Day event will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is being hosted in partnership with The Hogs Trough, bringing a flavorful twist to a day built around community and classic cars.
All vehicles are welcome, with a $10 registration fee for those looking to compete. Entry for attendees is by donation, and there will also be $5 face painting for the kids, making this a family-friendly event for car lovers of all ages.
Trophies will be awarded in a wide variety of categories, including: Adam Stapleton Best in Show, People’s Choice, Long Haul Legend, Best Hot Rod, Time Capsule, Rat Rod, Best Bike, Redline Renegade, Best Veteran Owned, Best GM, Ford, and Mopar, Work in Progress, Power Wheels, And the Hogs Trough Smoke Show
All proceeds from the day will go toward supporting the 2026 EKFA Conference, which will be hosted by the Grayson Fire Department. GFD’s own Deputy Chief Eddie Rucker is set to serve as President of the 2026 EKFA, making this event an important community-driven effort to support local leadership on a regional stage.
