Families looking for a fun and educational outdoor activity this spring will have an opportunity to explore nature up close during a special event coming to the area next month.
Carter Caves State Resort Park will host its Jr. Naturalist Day: Wildflowers program on Saturday, April 11th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the park’s Welcome Center.
Designed for children ages six through thirteen, the program gives young nature lovers a chance to learn about local wildflowers and the natural beauty found right here in Eastern Kentucky. Participants will enjoy a guided hike through the park, take part in a hands-on craft activity, and learn about responsible outdoor practices through a Leave No Trace presentation.
A lunch break is included during the day’s activities, and families are asked to bring a packed lunch. Organizers also recommend closed-toe shoes for anyone taking part in the outdoor hike.
The cost to participate is fifteen dollars per child, which includes a Junior Naturalist activity book, while parents and guardians may attend at no additional charge.
Park officials say the event is a great way for kids to connect with nature, learn new skills, and spend time outdoors as spring begins to bloom across the region.

Families across the area will have a chance to celebrate the Easter season together with a fun-filled community event coming up in Grayson.
Grayson Tourism is inviting the public to its third annual Community Easter Egg Hunt, set to take place on Saturday, April 4th at 2:00 p.m.
This year’s event will be held on the lawn of Kentucky Christian University, offering plenty of open space for children and families to spread out and enjoy the afternoon.
The egg hunt is open to children ages zero through fourteen, and organizers say there will be a variety of activities designed to make it a fun and welcoming experience for kids of all ages. In addition to the egg hunt itself, participants can also look forward to grand prizes and giveaways, adding a little extra excitement to the day.

A program designed to help Carter County farmers manage the cost of weed control this spring is now underway.
The Carter County Soil Conservation District has announced its 2026 Spring Chemical Cost Share Program, which will provide a 50/50 reimbursement for certain herbicide purchases used in the county’s noxious weed control efforts.
Under the program, any Carter County resident with a Carter County farm number may qualify to receive reimbursement for chemical purchases, up to 80 dollars per farm number.
Officials say there are a few requirements that participants will need to follow. Purchases must have been made on or after March first, and applicants must provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt along with documentation showing the payment method used.
Cash purchases will not be accepted for reimbursement, and documentation must show that the purchase was made using a credit card, debit card, or check.
The Soil Conservation District says reimbursements will be processed once each month for those who participate, and the program will continue until the available funding has been exhausted.
Receipts and documentation should be submitted to Courtney Bond at the Carter County Soil Conservation District office, located at 526 East Main Street in Grayson.
