2025 will see the 14th annual Friends of Devin Kawada Golf Tournament head to the Hidden Cove Golf Course in Grayson this summer. This year’s outing is scheduled for the date of Saturday, June 7th with things getting underway at 8am.
Although the golfing won’t start for awhile, now is the perfect time to get involved by either registering a team or helping to sponsor this great event. Team registration carries a price point of $360 and all team members plus a captain must be included at your time of registration. Hole sponsorships begin at $100 and is open until the deadline of May 17th. All entry and sponsorships fees can be mailed to 106 East Fourth Street in Grayson, and should be made payable to “Golf.”
Some amazing hole-in-one prizes are up for grabs through this year’s Friends of Devin Kawada Golf Tournament including trips to Hawaii, Pebble Beach, Myrtle Beach, or even $10,000. Additional prizes will be given to the top 2 teams, through a 50/50 drawing, and of course there will be great door prizes as well.
All of the proceeds earned through this amazing effort will go directly towards benefitting the Devin Kawada Memorial Scholarship and Project Merry Christmas. After all of the golfing wraps up Rudy Fest will even be providing lunch the day of the event.

The Bruin Volunteer Fire Department has officially launched a fundraiser to assist them in building a new station. They are now making strides toward their long-term vision of a fully operational station, and they’re calling on the community to help bring it across the finish line.
After years of hard work, the department has secured the essential pieces – including trucks, equipment, and a team of dedicated volunteer firefighters – but what’s missing is the facility itself. To tackle this final and most expensive step, the department has launched a community-based fundraising campaign. Their goal? To gather support from 200 donors, each contributing at least $175. In return, each supporter — whether an individual, business, church, or organization — will have their name permanently honored on a Supporters Plaque inside the new station.
There are two donation tiers: Supporter – for a $175 donation that will include a name listed on the plaque, and Major Supporter – for a $350 or higher donation. The higher Major tier includes both the name listed on the plaque along with a special recognition. Donations can be dropped off during business hours at Healthy Way Pharmacy, located on RT. 7 Main St, Sandy Hook, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please place your donation in a sealed envelope including the following information: name or names to be listed on the plaque, contact phone number, and the amount donated.

It’s time to sign up for the senior farmers marker nutrition program, and anyone interested in getting involved in the 2025 offering is being invited to make plans to come out and get their voucher card on Thursday, May 15th or Friday, May 16th from 9am until 4pm at the Elliott County Extension Office.
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program provides seniors with a $50 voucher card to be used to purchase locally grown, fresh, and nutritious vegetables, fruits, cut herbs, and honey from all state approved farmer’s markets. To qualify participants must be 60 years of age or older and possess a valid form of identification at the time of registration: this includes a driver’s license, state identification card, or birth certificate.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program – known simply as LIHEAP – is back once again to help with cooling costs now that the temperature is beginning to rise. If you live in a household that is at or below 150% of the nation’s federal poverty guidelines then you are eligible to apply for the 2025 Spring Electric Cooling Subsidy Program.
No disconnection notice or past due billing statement is required, and any previous assistance does not affect your eligibility for this onetime payment assistance. For a more in depth look at the information for the 2025 Spring Electric Cooling Subsidy Program then you can log on to capky.org.
