This September is Suicide Prevention Month, and here in Carter County, our community is taking important steps to raise awareness and offer real tools that can help save lives. The Carter County Suicide Prevention Coalition is inviting everyone to attend a Lethal Means Safety Workshop on Thursday, September 18th at 6 p.m. at the Carter County Health Department in Grayson.
This free workshop is open to the public, and it’s designed to give families, educators, healthcare workers, and everyday community members practical ways to help protect those who may be at risk. The focus will be on reducing access to lethal means during times of crisis, and there will also be links to community resources, free gun safety locks available, and plenty of time for questions.
The training itself will be led by the Department of Veterans Affairs Suicide Prevention team, with support from local coalition members and community partners. It’s all about learning small, simple steps that can make a huge difference when someone is struggling.
If you’d like to get even more involved, the Carter County Suicide Prevention Coalition is welcoming new members who are passionate about mental health and making Carter County a safer, more supportive place.

It’s time once again to get your swing on and join the Grayson Chamber of Commerce in their yearly fundraising event, the Chamber Golf Scramble.
Once again being held at Hidden Cove Golf Course nestled in the beautiful backdrop of Grayson Lake State Resort Park on Friday, October 3rd. Registration begins at 8:00 AM with a shotgun start at 9:00 AM.
The chamber is looking for foursomes to compete in an 18 hole scramble with a top prize of $10,000 for a hole in one on hole number 11. Other prizes include a 50” Samsung Smart TV, a vacation stay, and many other surprises.
A “heckle hole” will also be utilized where you can pay a heckler to “throw off the game of your opponents” but be cautious as your competition may pay off Mr. Heckler in their favor.
Breakfast, lunch by El Mixteco and snacks and drinks along the way will be furnished by Racers.
There are also opportunities for businesses and organizations to sponsor a hike, have a tent to add some PR and or help with the food expenses. Donations are also being sought for goodie bags for our golfers.
