If you’re looking for a reason to get out on the golf course this fall, the Kentucky State Police are inviting you to tee it up for a very special cause.
The Kentucky State Police will host a Trooper Island Golf Scramble on Friday, September 18th, at Hidden Cove, and teams are now being encouraged to get registered. Registration will begin at 8 o’clock that morning, with the first teams teeing off at 9 o’clock.
The cost is $300 per team, and there is a limit of just 24 teams, so if you’re interested, you’ll want to get your team together and make plans to participate.
And while this is certainly an opportunity to spend a day on the golf course with friends, coworkers, or fellow members of the community, the reason behind the event is what really makes it special. The proceeds support Kentucky State Police Trooper Island, a program that has been helping Kentucky children for decades.
Trooper Island was established by the Kentucky State Police in 1965 and provides a free summer camp experience for children, giving them the opportunity to spend a week enjoying outdoor activities, building confidence, learning about teamwork and leadership, and developing positive relationships with Kentucky State Police troopers.
For the children who get to experience Trooper Island, it’s about much more than a week away from home. It’s an opportunity to make memories, learn new skills, and build relationships with troopers and other kids from across the Commonwealth. And that’s where this golf scramble comes in.
So, if you enjoy golf and would like to support a program that gives Kentucky kids an opportunity to experience something they may not otherwise have, grab three of your friends and put together a team.
Again, the Kentucky State Police Trooper Island Golf Scramble is Friday, September 18th, at Hidden Cove. Registration begins at 8 o’clock that morning, with tee-off at 9. The cost is $300 per team, and only 24 teams will be accepted.
Get your team together, enjoy a day on the course, and help support the Kentucky State Police Trooper Island program and the young people it serves.

The American Red Cross is bringing its Sound the Alarm campaign to Carter County this month, giving local families an opportunity to make their homes safer, completely free of charge.
The Sound the Alarm campaign is focused on one of the simplest and most important steps you can take to protect your family during a house fire: making sure you have working smoke alarms. According to the American Red Cross, working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death from a home fire in half. And on Saturday, September 12th, volunteers and local emergency response partners will be working right here in Carter County to help make sure more homes have that protection.
The event will take place from 10 o’clock that morning until 3 o’clock in the afternoon, in partnership with Grayson Emergency Management and the Grayson Fire Department. During the event, residents can request a free smoke alarm installation. Volunteers can come into the home, install the alarms, and help families take an important step toward being better prepared in the event of a fire.
And this isn’t about simply having a smoke alarm somewhere in the house. Working alarms in the right locations can provide those crucial extra moments to recognize that there’s a fire and get everyone safely outside. If you live in Carter County and would like to request a free smoke alarm installation, the Red Cross says you can call 1-844-216-8286. You can also find more information by visiting SoundTheAlarm.org/CentralAppalachia.
Again, that’s 1-844-216-8286 to request your free smoke alarm installation.
The American Red Cross, Grayson Emergency Management and the Grayson Fire Department are encouraging families across Carter County to take advantage of this opportunity. A smoke alarm is something most of us don’t think about very often, but when a fire happens, those few seconds of warning can make an enormous difference.
So, take a few minutes to check the smoke alarms in your home. Make sure they’re working, make sure you have enough of them, and if you need additional alarms, remember that free installations are available here in Carter County on Saturday, September 12th, from 10 until 3.
For more information or to request an installation, call 1-844-216-8286.
