If you’ve ever considered a career in the energy industry, an upcoming informational session in Grayson could be a chance to learn more about the training and opportunities available right here in Eastern Kentucky.
Ashland Community and Technical College, KCTCS and the SOAR Eastern Kentucky Talent Network are hosting two informational sessions on Monday, August 24th, for the Energy Careers That Power America training program.
The sessions will be held at the Rocky Adkins Pavilion, located at 902 Technology Drive, just off the Industrial Parkway in Grayson.
There will be two opportunities to attend. The first session runs from noon until 1:30, with the second session scheduled for 6 until 7:30 Monday evening.
The informational sessions are designed to give prospective students a better understanding of what the training includes, what career opportunities may be available in the energy industry, and what is required to qualify for the program.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to get their questions answered, learn about available funding and, if they’re ready, begin the application process right there at the session.
The actual training program is scheduled to begin September 15th and will be provided through Ashland Community and Technical College.
And for eligible Kentucky residents in Boyd, Carter, Greenup, Lawrence or Elliott Counties, tuition may be completely free if they are approved for the program.
You do not have to register to attend Monday’s informational session. Walk-ins are welcome, so you can simply stop by during either session and find out if this opportunity is right for you.

There’s an opportunity this Friday to help make sure local children have something as simple, but as important, as a good pair of shoes.
The Shoes 4 Kids organization will be in Grayson this Friday, August 21st, at All That Bloomz, and they’re inviting the community to come out and support their mission of helping children in need.
Shoes 4 Kids is a nonprofit organization founded by Sherry McBrayer Archey. The group works directly with schools to identify children who need new shoes. They take the time to properly clean and measure each child’s feet, then purchase new, name-brand shoes and socks specifically for those children.
And organizers say this isn’t about judging families or asking questions about why a child needs help. The goal is simply to make sure kids have what they need to put their best foot forward.
The organization has already served children in Greenup, Boyd, Lawrence and Carter Counties, and is now expanding its reach into Elliott County as well.
You can help support that work this Friday at All That Bloomz in Grayson. The Shoes 4 Kids event will run from 7:00 in the morning until 1:30 in the afternoon.
The organization points out that the child who needs a new pair of shoes could be anyone in our community. It could be a neighbor, a family member, a classmate or a child you know personally.
