Those that have yet to pay their unpaid Carter County Property taxes are running out of time to do so during this first round of penalties. Here’s another reminder that when mailing in your payment you are being asked to include a postcard or to write the bill number on the check which you are paying with. Please note that if you want to receive a paid receipt for this payment then you must enclose a self-addressed and stamped envelope with the check.
Payments will also be accepted through Visa and Master Card platforms both over the phone or at the Sherriff’s office in person – however a small additional fee will be applied to all credit card payments no matter the method used. The Carter County Sheriff’s Department works under the mailing address of P.O. Box 1590, Grayson, KY 41143.
Currently these bills carry a 5% penalty on all payments increasing to a 10% penalty along with an additional 10% Sheriff’s add-on fee beginning in February. Please note that all delinquent tax bills will be transferred to the County Clerk’s Office as of the close of business on April 15th, 2025.In addition to the penalties and fees that are applied by the Sheriff’s Office, all payments made in the County Clerk’s Office are subject to a 20% County Attorney’s Fee, a 10% County Clerk’s Fee and additional interest equal to 1% per month. The delinquency is also subject to being sold to a Third Party in the summer of 2025.

With the cold weather here to stay throughout the Bluegrass state the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has released their annual winter’s guide to help motorists prepare and stay safe on the roadways. Most recently they offered up the advice to keep your gas tank full which will help prevent ice buildup and in turn keep your engine from freezing. Temperature changes are known to cause moisture which collects in the gas tank and may freeze – but the KYTC reminders Kentucky motorists that a full tank leaves no room for ice and just might keep your engine safe.

We would like to remind our listeners once again that now is the time to order your apple and pear rootstock from your friends at the Carter County Cooperative Extension Office. Rootstock orders will be open until the deadline date of Saturday, February 1st or until the stock is sold out. The price for this year’s rootstock is set at $2 for Pyrus Old Home and Farmingdale 87 pears and M7A apples.
Please note that these orders are not ready to plant fruit trees but are instead rootstock that will require grafting. Orders do not come with scion wood and you will need to provide your own.
Grafting demo sessions will be held to help those who order learn to graft their own rootstock in the proper and efficient way. Grafting tools will also be available for check-out if needed.
All rootstock orders should arrive the first week of March and will need to be picked up at the Carter County Extension Office. Refunds will not be issued due to late pickup. You are asked to please pay with check or exact change and all checks should be made payable to Carter County Ag Council.

We would like to remind everyone about the ongoing Fostering Possibilities initiative that works diligently to provide for those in need. The program works with the selfless mission to provide new clothing and other resources to local foster children along with children in kinship placements. This is done to help foster a feeling of self-esteem and belonging in the children during a difficult time of change in their lives.
The Fostering Possibilities boutique is located at 310 Carol Malone Blvd in Grayson, and is accepting any and all donations from generous members of the community to help them better serve the foster youth of Carter County. All donations help stock the boutique location to allow the initiative to serve one child at a time. Officials with the program want everyone to know that any amount – no matter how small – can help make a huge difference towards this mission.
