Prichard Elementary is celebrating a major achievement this week with the announcement that the school has been officially recognized as a Family Friendly School by the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence.

The designation, which is awarded to schools that go above and beyond in welcoming and engaging families, is a testament to the strong partnerships Prichard Elementary has built between its staff, students, and the families they serve.

“We are committed to ensuring every family feels welcomed, connected, and valued as an equal partner in education,” the school shared in its announcement, highlighting the core of what the Family Friendly Schools initiative is all about.

Brigitte Blom, President and CEO of the Prichard Committee, praised the school for its dedication. “Schools that earn this certification show a strong commitment to actively involving families in their students’ education,” she said. “Prichard Elementary has shown remarkable initiative and creativity in making families true partners in the school community, an approach that deeply enhances student learning and success.”

From regular communication efforts to inclusive events and resources aimed at building bridges between home and classroom, Prichard Elementary continues to strengthen its role as not just a place of learning, but a hub of community connection.

Congratulations to the faculty, staff, and families of Prichard Elementary on this well-earned recognition—and thank you for setting a shining example of what partnership in education can look like here in Carter County.

This Saturday, June 7, Grayson Free Will Baptist Church will once again open its doors—and its heart—to the community with a free food giveaway from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at 1778 US 60 East in Grayson.

Once again offering their Daily Bread Food Pantry, the church invites anyone in need to stop by and pick up groceries—no registration or proof of income required. Supplies will be available while they last, so early arrival is encouraged.

Organizers ask participants to bring their own totes, boxes, or containers to help carry the food items home. A variety of shelf-stable goods and pantry staples will be available, aimed at easing the burden for local families as summer begins.

Food insecurity remains a real issue for many in Carter County, and events like this play a crucial role in ensuring that no neighbor goes without. Volunteers from the church and pantry work hard behind the scenes to sort, pack, and distribute these resources with care and dignity.

Whether someone’s facing a short-term struggle or a longer season of hardship, they’re not alone and there’s enough kindness in our community to go around.

If you or someone you know could benefit, please don’t hesitate to stop by. For more information on future food distributions or to get involved, reach out to the church directly or follow Grayson Free Will Baptist Church online.
