Health department officials say the position will work under the direction of the Support Services Supervisor and will play an important role in helping the agency carry out its day-to-day operations while assisting members of the public who rely on local health services.
Duties for the position include helping direct visitors to the appropriate services within the health department, preparing routine correspondence and materials, maintaining medical records and files, and assisting with administrative tasks that help keep programs operating smoothly.
The position will also involve entering and managing information related to patient services, assisting with recordkeeping and reports, handling certain fees for services, and helping support programs such as the Women, Infants and Children program, commonly known as WIC.
Officials say the role is designed to support a variety of health department operations and requires someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable interacting with members of the public.
The minimum requirement for the position is a high school diploma or GED, and officials note that additional experience or education may be considered during the hiring process.
The starting pay for the position is 13 dollars and 50 cents per hour, with the possibility of a higher starting rate depending on experience.

A scholarship opportunity is now available for Carter County high school seniors who are planning to pursue careers connected to conservation and natural resource management.
The Carter County Soil Conservation District is currently accepting applications for its annual conservation scholarship program, which is open to graduating seniors from both East Carter High School and West Carter High School who live in Carter County.
District officials say the scholarship is intended for students planning to major in a conservation-related field, such as agriculture, environmental science, forestry, natural resource management, or other areas focused on protecting and managing the region’s natural resources.
The scholarship provides five hundred dollars per year, with two hundred and fifty dollars awarded for the fall semester and two hundred and fifty dollars for the spring semester. Students who continue to meet the program’s guidelines may receive the award for up to four years, helping support their education while they prepare for careers in conservation and environmental stewardship.
Officials say programs like this help encourage young people to pursue fields that play an important role in protecting farmland, water quality, wildlife habitats, and the natural landscapes that are such an important part of life in Eastern Kentucky.
