Gov. Andy Beshear said Team Kentucky is providing tax relief for individuals and businesses in Kentucky affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding and landslides that began on Feb. 14, 2025.
This extension allows affected taxpayers whose filing deadline is on or after Feb. 14, 2025, until Nov. 3, 2025, to file Kentucky income tax returns and submit tax payments for individual income tax, corporate income tax, pass through entity tax, income tax withholding, limited liability entity tax, quarterly estimated payments and Kentucky payroll payments.
He went on to say that Kentucky’s extensions for state tax deadlines will mirror the Internal Revenue Service’s federal extensions related to this disaster for filing income tax returns, including payment of tax due. Late filing and payment penalties will be waived for those affected taxpayers seeking this relief, as long as such payments are paid on or before Nov. 3, 2025. Taxpayers are advised to label the top margin of the tax forms filed under this relief provision in large, red letters with the words “Kentucky Disaster Relief.” If filing online, most software will allow for “Disaster” to be entered on the return for e-file.
Taxpayers requiring additional information or assistance may contact the Department of Revenue at (502) 564-4581 for individual income tax, or (502) 564-8139 for corporation income, limited liability entity and pass-through entity tax.

Over the last several years the problem of e-waste has become more prevalent as it seems our devices don’t last as long, and we simply can’t go without them. Oftentimes those old devices end up in a spare drawer somewhere or even piling up in landfills across the nation. Thankfully Goodwill Industries of KYOVA is stepping up to do their part in ensuring those devices can be recycled and put to good use instead of collecting dust. The Kenova Electronics Recycling Event is headed our way this weekend on Saturday, March 22nd from 10am until 2pm at the Kenova Municipal Building located at 1008 Oak Street.
The event will be happily accepting items such as: computers and laptops, cell phones and e-readers, keyboards, mice, digital cameras, printers, and so much more. Chances are if you have an old, outdated, or unused electronic and want to give it a second chance at life through recycling then this is your chance.
Each and every device saved from our nation’s landfills can help to reduce the amount of e-waste and even see certain components recycled and reused. The Kenova Electronics Recycling Event is USDA approved, and officials looks forward to collecting as many items as possible this weekend. Once again it heads your way on Saturday from 10am until 2pm at 1008 Oka Street in Kenova.

Despite one of the wettest winters on record for the Bluegrass state we are now into the spring fire season for 2025, and emergency management officials want to remind everyone throughout our Carter County communities that this means it is currently illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland between the daytime hours of 6am to 6pm.
Our spring and forest fire seasons stem from the Kentucky Division of Forestry as they are mandated by law to provide for organized fire protection. Spring forest fire season begins each year on the date of February 15th and continues through April 30th.
It is recommended that before conducting any outdoor burning you reach out and check with your local fire department officials to check on the conditions and to ask about any restrictions or local ordinances that may be in place. Once again the 2025 spring forest fire season will continue through the date of Wednesday, April 30th.
