The ongoing waterline replacement project in Grayson will bring a temporary closure to the intersection of Hord Street and 3rd Street starting Monday. Throughout the week, work will continue westward along 3rd Street toward Landsdowne, with additional tie-ins planned once that section is complete.
Crews will first focus on areas behind Little Caesar’s and the 2nd Life Center for Church on Pomeroy Street, where work will resume as the project progresses.

Elliott County will come alive with the sounds of bluegrass and country as the Appalachian Echoes: Elliott County Musical Homecoming takes the stage on May 31st at Lakeside Elementary School in Sandy Hook.
From 3 PM to 9 PM, attendees can enjoy performances from a lineup of local and regional artists, including Don Rigsby, Kevin Denney, Solid Ground, Silver Dollar Band, and Col Dreyden Gordon. Special guests Dwight Whitley, Junie Stevens, Wayne Lewis, and Ron Rigsby are also slated to make appearances.
Admission is $20 per person, with free entry for children 12 and under. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and settle in for a day of music, food, and fellowship. Concessions will be provided by the Sandy Hook Fire/Rescue Department and Hepburn 576 Masonic Lodge.

The Carter County Poetry Society, in partnership with Holler Down The Holler, is inviting the public to an evening of spoken word and creativity as part of this year’s Memory Days festivities in Grayson.
The 2025 Memory Days Poetry Slam will take place on Thursday, May 22, beginning at 6:00 p.m. inside the Grayson Gallery and Art Center, located at 301 East Third Street. The event is completely free to both attend and participate.
Local poets of all experience levels are encouraged to join the fun — but they’ll need to bring their strongest verses and boldest performances, as cash prizes will be awarded to the top three poets of the night. Winners will be selected based on audience votes, making crowd engagement a key part of the competition.
Organizers are hoping for a strong turnout and a lively evening of verse, art, and community. Whether you’re stepping up to the mic or coming just to listen, all are welcome to take part in this unique celebration of local talent.
