Carter County clean up dumpster will be on the EAST END this week and open Wednesday through Friday (10/14 - 10/16) 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM

Families in our area have another opportunity coming up to enjoy some food, fun, faith and family time together, with a free monthly outreach program hosted by Oak Grove Church of Christ.

It’s called Kids Korner, and the next gathering is coming up Saturday, September 26th, from 11 o’clock in the morning until 1 o’clock in the afternoon at the Oak Grove Life Center.

The program is open to all families, and there’s something planned for children as well as parents and other adults. Children in fifth grade and younger can take part in Bible lessons, while youth and adult Bible studies will also be available as needed.

But this isn’t just about sitting down for a lesson. Kids Korner also includes games and activities, giving children a chance to have fun, interact with others and enjoy some time together.

And lunch is included. The organizers will provide a free lunch for the entire family, so there’s no cost to come out and participate.

Each month, Kids Korner also features a giveaway of essential items, and this month’s giveaway is focused on something every family can use: hygiene products.

According to the event information, every family attending will receive hygiene products, with items such as shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, floss and other everyday necessities being included.

The organizers say Kids Korner is designed as a free monthly family outreach program, bringing families together in a welcoming environment while providing opportunities for fellowship, learning, activities and practical assistance.

So, if you’re looking for something the whole family can enjoy, mark your calendar for Saturday, September 26th.

Kids Korner will take place from 11 AM until 1 PM at the Oak Grove Life Center, and again, it’s open to all families.

You’ll find Bible lessons for children, Bible studies available for youth and adults, games and activities, a free family lunch, and this month’s hygiene-product giveaway.

For updates and information about future Kids Korner events, organizers encourage families to follow Oak Grove Church of Christ on Facebook.

It’s a simple invitation to families in our community: come together, enjoy a meal, let the kids have some fun, and take part in a program built around food, fun, faith and family.

City of Grayson Emergency Management is working to establish a new public safety program in our area. To ensure your loved one is safe, the City of Grayson is utilizing an automated check-in service called ConfirmOK to support older residents, ages 55 and up, living by themselves. Automated alerts will allow first responders to be dispatched and assure help arrives quickly during an emergency. Grayson EM will begin a pilot program for twelve residents who live within the city limits.

Grayson City residents will sign up to receive a phone call at a time convenient for them Monday through Friday. When the phone number, 606-331-5016, comes across the phone, the resident will pick up the phone and press 1. This will notify ConfirmOK that the person is okay. If the call is not accepted then the automated system will retry two more times. If no one answers, Dispatch will be notified so an officer from the Grayson Police Department can check on the person.

Unfortunately, four people have been found deceased in Grayson through August. We don’t want another statistic. If responders believe a medical emergency is happening and the resident cannot answer the phone, the person may be found sooner.

Applications may be picked up at Walgreens, Horton Brothers & Brown, Med- Save, or Primary Plus. City EM will be the lead in this program. You may drop your form off at the Grayson City Building or Grayson Fire Department. If you need help in filling out the form, City Emergency Management will be glad to come to your home and fill out the application with you. For questions, call 606-315-4119.

The Olive Hill Center for Arts and Heritage is asking the community to come together to help restore an important part of the historic center. The organization has launched a fundraising effort to repair and restore the bathrooms at the Olive Hill Center, after the facilities sustained significant damage last year that left them in need of major repairs.

Since then, those involved with the center have continued working to keep the building welcoming and available to the community, while planning for the work that needs to be done. Now, they’re asking for a little help from the people who have supported the center and the many activities that take place there.

The Olive Hill Center for Arts and Heritage is home to community events, performances, classes, tea room rentals, and plenty of other gatherings throughout the year. It’s a place where people can come together, enjoy the arts, learn something new, celebrate special occasions, and simply spend time with their neighbors.

But keeping a community facility like this open and welcoming takes work, and the bathroom repairs are an important part of making sure the center can continue serving the community for years to come. The center has established a GoFundMe campaign to raise the money needed for those repairs and restoration.

It’s ultimately about helping preserve a place where people in Olive Hill and throughout our area can gather, create, learn, and celebrate the arts.

The goal is simple: restore an important part of the Olive Hill Center for Arts and Heritage and help keep the doors open for the community events, performances, classes, rentals, and special moments that make the center such an important part of Olive Hill.
