Attention Carter County farmers — applications are about to open for the County Agricultural Incentives Program, better known as CAIP. This program helps farmers make important improvements on their farms with support from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund.
Eligible areas include farm diversification, fencing and water improvements, large and small animal projects, grain and forage improvements, poultry, on-farm energy, and much more.
The application window runs from Monday, October 6th through Friday, October 24th, and no applications will be accepted before or after those dates.
Applications will be available at the Carter County Conservation District Office in Grayson, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Mark your calendars — the 2025 Farm & Family Field Day is coming up on Tuesday, September 16th at the Butch and Nicole Flaugher Farm in Grayson.
Registration kicks off at 5 p.m., and your name will be entered for door prizes after the farm tour. Bring a dessert for the dessert contest, and stop by the booths to check out local vendors. Don’t forget — you can even bring your pressure canner lid to be tested.
A free meal, prepared by East and West Carter FFA Chapters, will be served before the evening program. At 6:30 p.m., the farm tour begins, featuring sessions on backyard poultry, livestock birthing, and even mechanical concrete barn flooring.
Stick around afterward to see if your name is drawn for a prize!
That’s the Farm & Family Field Day, Tuesday, September 16th at 3440 State Highway 1496 in Grayson. Be sure to bring a lawn chair, and enjoy a full evening of food, fun, and farming.

Two sessions are scheduled: Monday, September 29th at 6:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 5th at 10:00 a.m. Both will be held at 94 Fairground Drive in Grayson.

Rickie Hammond, Veterans Benefits Field Representative will be at the Boyd County Senior Citizens Building in Catlettsburg, KY on Monday through Friday by appointment only. Veterans and their dependents will receive assistance filing for Federal and State veteran’s benefits. This service is provided free of charge by the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs.
