As the Easter holiday fast approaches it won’t be long before Carter County is filled with fun celebrations for the special day. To start off our newscast for the day we’ll go over several of the events that are planned throughout the county starting off with a Bunny Hop collaboration from the businesses inside Camp Landing. All the fun can be enjoyed on Friday, April 18th from 6 until 8pm where there will be free professional photos with the Easter Bunny, great door prizes, and of course gathering candy from all of the local businesses located throughout Camp Landing Entertainment District. Door prize winners will be drawn at approximately 8 o’clock.
Several churches have activities planned for the Saturday of Easter weekend as well like an egg hunt and family fun day sponsored by the First Christian Church of Olive Hill at 110 Caleb Powers Lane from 2 to 4pm, another community egg hunt starts at 2pm at the Straight Creek Independent Free Will Baptist Church, and the annual Easter dinner complete with yet another egg hunt at the Grahn Hill Freewill Baptist Church from 3 until 5pm. The dinner and festivities are open to the public. Finally, the Oak Grove Church of Christ is hosting their own Easter party from 12 noon until 2pm for all children through 5th grade.
Moving past Saturday and onto Easter Day itself: a Celebration in the form of a traditional egg hunt taking place at Carter Caves State Resort Park is planned. On Sunday, April 20th the Friends of Carter Caves will be offering free entry for all, with children participating by age groups and starting at the Welcome Center at 2pm.
This is just a brief look at some of the great Easter holiday events planned throughout Carter County, and we hope that those in our community turn out and enjoy all of the hard work by the dedicated organizations, teams, and individuals that make these great events possible.

District Nine of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will begin a paving project today on KY 1 in Greenup County. The paving will take place throughout the week along 7 miles of KY 1. Set to begin today and continue throughout the next 2 weeks, motorists should expect one-lane flagged traffic on KY 1 between the Greenup/Carter County line (mile point 0) and Addie Road (mile point 5.34).
Road work schedules may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling
The work is being done by Mountain Enterprises, Inc., under a $837 thousand Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract.

The Olive Hill City Council is all set to host their regular monthly meeting for April this evening at 6pm inside the Olive Hill Police Department. Their agenda for the meeting includes, but is not limited to, the second reading of ordinance 2025-03 concerning the annexation of RT2 BP into the city limits. They will also review and discuss an opening on the Board of Commissions.
Throughout the evening departmental reports will be given by Olive Hill’s police, fire, and code enforcement offices which will be followed up by the treasurer’s report for March 2025. Finally, an executive session will be held to cap off the meeting in accordance with KRS 61.810.
Once again this will be the regular April meeting for the Olive Hill City Council this evening at 6pm inside the Olive Hill Police Department.

Celebrate Recovery, a weekly meeting series held at the First Church of Christ in Grayson on Pomeroy Street, will begin tonight’s meeting at 6:30pm. At the meetings those in attendance will learn the secrets of victorious living over issues such as: addictions, anger, depression, mental stresses, and much more. Large and small group meetings will be held each week. All are welcome to attend, and free food will be offered to all who are in attendance.
