Your friends from the Carter County Public Library are all set to celebrate the upcoming Easter holiday with not one but two special events – with one outing planned for the West and East end branches. Both events will be held on Saturday, April 19th – and on that day at the 116 West Main Street Grayson Branch the community can find a fun and interactive egg hunt beginning at 11am. Meanwhile, at the Olive Hill branch located at 110 Comet Drive a combined Easter party and egg hunt will be held. Those who attend will be treated to a special story and activity, along with plenty of games, snacks, and goodie bags. All of the fun at the West end branch begins at 1pm.

It may seem a bit too early for Memory Days for many throughout our communities, but not for your friends from the Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce. Although the big celebration won’t head our way until the summer, they are already hard at work preparing to make the 2025 event bigger and better than ever. Recently officials from the Chamber released a call for submissions to be entered into the Memory Days Veterans Highlight Reel which will be a part of this summer’s salute.
Anyone who has a veteran loved one that they would like to honor in the highlight reel is being asked to please submit the applications through an online Google Docs form which can be accessed by scanning a QR code found on the official Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. However, if you can’t access the form they are also accepting submission via email at mcclain.dyer@gmail.com. When emailing please be sure to add a title to the subject line reading VETERANS HIGHLIGHT REEL in all capital letters. Also included should be the name, date of birth, branch of service, and a photo of the veteran you wish to honor.
The submission deadline is set to remain open until the date of Saturday, May 10th.

The third annual fish fry with proceeds earned to benefit the Sts. John & Elizabeth Appalachian Ministry Fund that serves the needs of both Carter and Elliott Counties has been scheduled for this Friday, April 4th. At the end of the week you can visit the Applegate Hall next to the Catholic Church at 799 State Highway 1947 in Grayson between the hours of 5 and 7pm to purchase one of the delicious dinners.
Meals will include the famous fried fish, fries, hushpuppies, and macaroni and cheese. All meals will be sold via donations with the suggested price point set at $7.50, however it has been noted that any donation amount will be accepted for the plates. Once again that’s the third annual fish fry to be held this Friday from 5 until 7pm.

We’re officially into a new penalty period for all remaining unpaid Carter County Property tax bills. Here’s another reminder that when mailing in your payment you are being asked to include a postcard or to write the bill number on the check which you are paying with. Please note that if you want to receive a paid receipt for this payment then you must enclose a self-addressed and stamped envelope with the check.
Payments will also be accepted through Visa and Master Card platforms both over the phone and at the Sheriff’s office in person – however a small additional fee will be applied to all credit card payments no matter the method used. The Carter County Sheriff’s Department works under the mailing address of P.O. Box 1590, Grayson, KY 41143.
Currently payment penalties have increased to a 10% penalty along with an additional 10% Sheriff’s add-on fee. Please note that all delinquent tax bills will be transferred to the County Clerk’s Office as of the close of business on April 15th, 2025.In addition to the penalties and fees that are applied by the Sheriff’s Office, all payments made in the County Clerk’s Office are subject to a 20% County Attorney’s Fee, a 10% County Clerk’s Fee and additional interest equal to 1% per month. The delinquency is also subject to being sold to a Third Party in the summer of 2025.

Celebrate Recovery, a weekly meeting series held at the First Church of Christ in Grayson on Pomeroy Street, will begin tonight’s meeting at 6:30pm. At the meetings those in attendance will learn the secrets of victorious living over issues such as: addictions, anger, depression, mental stresses, and much more. Large and small group meetings will be held each week. All are welcome to attend, and free food will be offered to all who are in attendance.
