A regional hiring event coming to Grayson this week is aiming to connect Eastern Kentuckians with job opportunities that combine travel and competitive pay.
Today is the day that SOAR and the Eastern Kentucky Talent Network will host a hiring event at Ashland Community and Technical College’s Tech Drive Campus in Grayson. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will feature opportunities with WECTEC Staffing Services, a subsidiary of Westinghouse Electric Company, along with other industry partners.
Organizers say they’re looking for individuals with experience or transferable skills in areas such as skilled trades, manufacturing, mechanical and electrical work, and other industrial or technical fields.
Many of the positions involve travel for work, but also offer strong wages, support while on the job, and scheduled time back home between assignments—an option that may appeal to those looking to stay rooted in Eastern Kentucky while working in a broader market.
For those unable to attend in person, virtual interview opportunities may be available for qualified candidates, allowing them to connect with employers from anywhere in the region.

The Olive Hill City Council is set to meet in special session for the month of April this evening at 6pm inside of the Olive Hill Police Station. The meeting has a busy agenda which includes, but is not limited to, the following items: a bluegrass update, discussions on tourism and zoning in the city of Olive Hill, and a track end RV and music park. Elsewhere on the docket is the West end branch of the Carter County Public Library, AirMed Care, the 1st 2Fly Event, and some building updates. Even further into the meeting parks and recreation along with water treatment will be the focus of the spotlight before departmental reports are heard from Olive Hill’s police, fire, and code enforcement offices. The treasurer’s report for March of 2026 will be heard as well before an executive session is held to wrap up the meeting in accordance with KRS 61.810.

New safety measures are now in place along Main Street in Grayson, aimed at protecting students as they travel to and from school.
City of Grayson officials say new “Stop for School Bus” signs have been installed on both sides of Main Street to remind drivers of the law when school buses are picking up or dropping off students.
City leaders are emphasizing that drivers are required to stop when a school bus has its stop arm extended and lights flashing. Failing to do so is considered a criminal offense and can rise to the level of reckless driving, which may result in an arrest.
Officials also note that violations can lead to increased insurance rates, along with court costs and additional penalties.
The goal of the new signage is to increase awareness and encourage drivers to slow down and follow the law, helping keep students safe during busy travel times.
City officials are reminding motorists to stay alert and use extra caution when traveling along Main Street, especially during school hours.
