The Olive Hill City Council is set to hold their regular monthly meeting for January today inside the Olive Hill Senior/Community Center at 220 Railroad Street. The meeting will begin at approximately 6pm and hosts an agenda which includes the following items: an energy update followed by a chance for an open discussion. After that departmental reports from the police, fire, and code enforcement offices will be heard along with the treasurer’s report for December of 2024. Before adjourning the meeting there will be an Executive Session held in accordance with KRS 61.810.
Once again this is the January Regular Meeting of the Olive Hill City Council at 6pm this evening.

The Carter County Health Department along with Pathways and the KY-Moms program are partnering together to offer up another Healthy Baby virtual workshops. The program is designed for those that are pregnant or up to 60 days postpartum in Carter and our surrounding counties such as Boyd and Rowan – with the additional requirement of no participants having previously attended a KY-Moms Health Baby Workshop. All participants are set to receive a $50 Walmart gift card.

In more news from your local Health Department – they recently shared that January is National Blood Donor Month. Here in the United States it is estimated that someone needs blood every two seconds. Throughout the Bluegrass state there’s a need for 400 donors every single day to meet the needs of the patients of our state. A single donation – although it may seem minor – could be the key to helping to save multiple lives.

It was announced at the start of last week that Kentucky Christian University’s Yancey School of Nursing became the most recent recipient of a generous $40,260 grant from The King’s Daughters and Sons Foundation of Kentucky, Inc. This award builds on the Foundation’s significant support in 2023, which enabled the purchase of two state-of-the-art high-fidelity simulation manikins, one of which will be used to train for the care of infants and the other for school aged children.
The newly awarded funds will be used to further enhance the Yancey School of Nursing’s simulation-based education by constructing and equipping a fully immersive neonatal and pediatric intensive care unit (NICU/PICU) suite specifically designed for these advanced manikins. This new facility will allow nursing students to engage in realistic, hands-on training scenarios, bridging the gap between classroom learning and clinical practice.
Simulation plays a critical role in preparing students for successful careers in healthcare. By replicating real-world clinical settings and scenarios, simulation provides a safe and controlled environment for students to practice psychomotor skills and apply critical knowledge required for making sound patient care decisions. According to research from the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL), simulation-based training significantly improves students’ clinical judgment and increases first-time pass rates on the NCLEX-RN exam.
Kentucky Christian University remains committed to delivering innovative and effective nursing education that equips graduates with the skills and confidence to excel in their profession. This grant marks another significant step forward in achieving that mission.

An East Carter Tennis Informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at 4pm inside the ECMS cafeteria. All 3rd grade through high school students along with their parents or guardians are being asked to attend.
Tennis tryouts are set to begin on Monday, February 17th at 5:15pm, and they will continue every Friday at the same time at the ECMS courts throughout February with weather permitting. These practices will be open to all 3rd grades through high school aged students. Completed physicals must be brought to the tryouts.
