As this week’s heat advisory rolls in—with hot, sunny skies pushing highs into the upper 90s—you’ll want to take extra care under the sun. These steamy conditions can put anyone at risk, especially children, seniors, athletes, or anyone working outside.
Make sure to be prepared and know the risks and the signs of the dangers that the summer weather brings. Heat exhaustion can hit when you sweat excessively and lose fluids and essential salts. Common warning signs include headache, dizziness, cramps, nausea, weakness, and heavy sweating. Heat stroke is far more serious—it strikes when the body fails to cool down, your skin feels hot and dry, your pulse races, and you might become confused or faint.
Be smart and take precautions like staying hydrated, seeking shelter, wearing light and breathable clothing, and most importantly know your limits. If you or someone else shows signs of heat stroke, don’t hesitate—call 911 immediately. Move to a cool space, and use damp cloths on the head and neck until help arrives

The Olive Hill City Pool and Splash Pad is officially open for the 2025 summer season, offering families a fun and affordable way to beat the heat.
The facility is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with daily admission set at $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 and under. Kids 2 and under swim free with a paying adult.
Season passes are available for those planning to visit often—$40.00 for individuals or $100.00 for a family of up to five. The pool is also available for private parties beginning at 6:00 p.m., with rental options starting at $75.00 for two hours or $110.00 for three hours. Lifeguards are included in the price.
To keep the space safe and enjoyable for everyone, pool rules include: children under 10 must be accompanied by a responsible adult, no smoking, alcohol, foul language, or rough play, no food or drinks in the pool area and no glass containers allowed. Finally, the Splash Pad is intended for younger children only.

District Nine of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have announced a new traffic advisory for our area here in Carter County, as the I-64 westbound rest area at Grayson has been temporarily closed. This means that all services, truck parking, etc is currently unavailable at the mile marker 173 rest area.
This closure is required so that KYTC crews can begin and complete a utility project in the area. This utility closure is expected to run through next Monday, June 30th. Please note that during this time the eastbound rest area near Grayson will also remain closed.
