America is all set to celebrate a big milestone this weekend, and that means there will be no shortage of celebrations for all of the communities within our listening area. We’re going to be doing our best to shine the spotlight on some of these exciting events, and today’s newscast will start with what the Olive Hill Welcome Center has planned as they are preparing to celebrate a milestone of their own this Independence Day weekend, and of course the community is invited to join in the festivities.
This year marks the Welcome Center’s fifth anniversary, and organizers have planned two days of activities to recognize five years of welcoming visitors, promoting the area’s attractions, and celebrating the rich history and heritage of Olive Hill and Carter County.
The celebration begins on Friday, July 3rd, with an open house from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Visitors can stop by the Welcome Center at 140 Railroad Street to enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks while taking part in a fun Tom T. Hall-themed activity. Guests who sing a line from one of the legendary singer-songwriter’s songs will receive a prize, making it a fitting tribute to one of Carter County’s most celebrated musical icons.
Everyone who visits during Friday’s anniversary celebration will also have the opportunity to enter a drawing for a one hundred dollar cash giveaway, with the winner scheduled to be announced at 2:15 that afternoon.
The celebration continues on Saturday, July 4th, as the Welcome Center recognizes Tom T. Hall Day, honoring the Olive Hill native whose music and storytelling left a lasting mark on country music and American culture.
